How worried should we be at Gauthier handling the contracts of our cornerstone RFA's?

Personally, because of his knee history, I was wishing for a one year deal at 7M$ but I won't blame Gauthier for signing Markov 3 years at 5,75M$.

The Montreal Canadiens is a rich organisation so I assume they tried hard to get a clear picture regarding Markov's injury. I think the worst case scenario happened with Markov.

That being mentioned, chances are this injury (its resulting consequence: a very bad – inexperienced – NHL D squad) will probably be the cause of Gauthier's downfall.

oh, i was happy with that deal too.
The thoughts of Markov skating with another team were driving me mad.

But i really feel the management dealt with the Markov recovery like amateurs.
And unfortunately cost us a playoffs spot + Campoli + Kaberle's awful deal

Gorges was especially classic... the Costanza school of negotiations. The Campioli raise was nice too.

I don't find the Campoli deal all that bad, considering it was 1 year and he was supposed to be short term fill-in for Markov. Problem was he got hurt right away. The Kaberle deal still confuses me. They were lucky the last few years by picking up rental d-men to help the PP, but they were all shooters in their UFA year, so low risk. Kaberle is not any of those things. Hopefully the GM will be able to get rid of that contract somehow, but I assume he would only do this if they need the money (cap room) to put towards another player/players.
