The Kings still have a solid chance to make the playoffs. It's looking like a much higher hill to climb right now, but just a few weeks ago it was almost a lock that the Kings would make it. Things can turn around quickly.

I'm calling a 4 game winning streak starting tonight in Minnesota. Kings will be back into the thick of things by the second week of March.

As long as Lombardi is fired at the end of the season and the players accept no responsibility, I'm okay with whatever happens.

Honestly, I'm not sure I hope you're right. I mean, I hope you're right because I want to see playoff hockey.....but if you want regime change, you're in the unenviable position of hoping for a playoff miss, or a quick first round elimination. Otherwise we could be seeing Lombardi/Sutter hockey next year....with likely the same results.

Sucks being a Kings fan right now.

This is a serious question... what makes you think that THIS TEAM, as it is this moment, can go 12-7 (a .632 percentage) over a span of 19 games? Can you find a 19-game stretch where this team managed to maintain that pace?

Exactly how I feel.

Never been one for hoping my favorite teams lose, but at the same time, like you said, it will likely result in a quick exit with a strong chance that Dean and Sutter return.

I think assuming that DL and company are gone if we miss the playoffs is setting a lot of you up to be disappointed. Obviously it's possible, but it's anything but a lock.

Sydor, I agree with you. Winning streak starts tonight. If we just get hot at the end of the season, anything can happen. I'm trying to stay positive.

what was our winning percentage when sutter took over? also weren't we destroying it in the beginning of the season before richards got hurt?

This team still has all the talent to get it done. They just can't bury their chances. That's been the issue all season. Many nights the effort is there and even great chances but nobody can bury it this year. It's unreal! Everyone in our top 6 (including Gagne) and even parts of our top 9 are all proven scorers in this league. They've all repeatedly scored at least 20 goals! Talent just doesn't go away out of the blue, nor does any system hinder players THAT much!

I don't know what's going on. All I can think is it's mental.

The Kings are of course ranked 30th in the league in scoring, but are 12th in league in shots on goal. (I can't find any stats on scoring chances)
Compare that to tonight's opponent the Minnesota Wild who are 29th in the league scoring and 30th in the league shots on goal.

Non the less the season has been massively disappointing. Expectation were much higher then this!

But when your only 2 points out of a playoff spot and it's February 28th. It's down right stupid to say it's over! I still think if we can get into the playoffs. We can be very tough playoff team to beat, and the teams like the Vancouver Canucks don't scare me at all!

We just gotta take it one game at a time, give it 110%. It's too hard to predict what this team will do since I'm not even sure what Kings team will show up from game to game. Tonight is a great example, 2 of the worst offenses in the NHL, Kings on back to back, should mean the Kings get beat 2-0. Will we get the Kings team that played the Blackhawks or the sluggish, apologetic, apathetic, boring Kings team that showed up last night? I'm calling it now-I have no idea how the rest of the season will go.

What's the longest win streak the Kings have held this season? I hope they make it, because if they miss the playoffs I don't see Lombardi being fired for it. He will snake the blame onto other things.

It's not going to matter what DL says when season-ticket renewal is down by a record margin.

Don't score goals, fire the coach, trade young players for older non productive ones, miss playoffs, and raise tickets! This is coming together great!

Remember-it took Detroit a really, really, really long time to get good again. The Kings are following their plan to a T minus Yzerman, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsuyk, Federov, Konstantinov, Larionov, Shanahan, Chelios. Detroit wasn't built in a day! Patients!

I'm in. This is what I root for this time of year, seems like every year. 20 games is plenty to turn it around, and just because they haven't done it so far doesn't mean they're incapable of playing good hockey. The ducks were left for dead and they turn their season around. I'm in and just not able to root for failure. Go Kings

If the Kings play slighty above 500. Hockey they have a Shot at 8th place. That's all you can really hope for. I am always harping on the Kings, but I even think they have a shot. Untill they are eliminated points wise, they have a shot.

We got this! Enough with the negativity, we are all fans of the same team and win or lose, they're still our boys. GO KINGS GO!

And by "slightly above", you mean .632 as compared to .500.

Just for comparison, only four teams in the West are playing above .632 for the season (Vancouver, Detroit, St. Louis, and Nashville), and only two in the East (NY Rangers, Boston).

In my mind, that's not "slightly above" .500.

It could still happen, the team could definitely get hot... all it takes is for two of Kopitar, Doughty, Richards, Quick, Carter, Brown to go into beast mode and we could sneak in at #8.

Unfortunately I can't say it's likely at this point, but I'll still be watching every game and hoping for the best (like the true masochist Kings fan I am).

1) Before Sutter took over, the team was 15-14-4... a percentage of .515.

2) The first 19 games, the team was 10-6-3 -- a percentage of .605.

The first 19 games under Sutter, the team was 10-3-6 - a percentage of .684.

So, I guess that does give us ONE stretch of 19 games where the team played at or above the level required to make it into the playoffs. I'm still very skeptical of this team duplicating that stretch, especially as 12 of those 19 were at home... and only 8 of the remaining 19 are at home.

What was the points percentage of Sutter's first 19 games? It had to be close to 0.632 with all of the OT/SO losses.

I'm too busy to check on this right now, but I'm sure someone else will soon.

This team could easily go 12-7 the rest of the way. Phoenix is doing it right now, no reason the Kings couldn't do it too.

Well, except for the whole terrible coach thing.
