No disrespect meant, but I'm struck by many fans desire to have what other teams have and would be very reluctant to give up. Unless we opened the cup board.

Wouldn't it be great if we had some our own "Big Names" that other teams would covet?

I think we do now...and we'll have more soon.

Well he wouldn't cost much more than Sather offered for Nash. Plus he's on a much more workable contract, he's younger, and he's a better player (IMO).

Haven't seen this posted, but I skimmed quickly. Front page has Nash press conference or interview or whatever.

Wow, after watching that interview... It really does seem like Nash wanted to come here. He seemed like he didn't even want to be there to answer any questions. I wonder if we get him for a steal during the off season or just hold the checkbook for Parise (not guaranteed). I feel sorry for the guy (Nash).

Howson admitted the price went up on Sunday

Quote:
Howson’s price for Nash is thought to be a young impact NHL player, one or two top prospects and a first-round pick in the entry draft. It was reported the price rose from that in the past couple of days and Howson said Monday the report “had a little bit of truth to it.

I don't think he's a better player, but his contract definitely makes him a better option.

The biggest difference between the two is that Ryan can be traded to anyone of 29 teams. Nash can't, without his permission, and he's only given permission for 5/6 teams.

Sather is going to be on NHL XM radio very soon and they are going to ask him about the whole Nash thing. They never give specifics and he will probably brush it off, but we rarely get to hear from Sather so I will be listening.

Sather basically just confirmed that there are only 5 teams on Nash's list on XM Radio. Said there were "five teams available to make a deal."

I don't believe LA was on the list.

Philly was reported, as was San Jose. Boston might have been the last one.

Sather said he wanted to tank when he first got here, hahaha. We just would have got Gaborik and Nash then

As much as some CBJ fans agitated me with their views of Erixon and our other prospects in the Nash trade thread, I really feel bad for what they have had to endure under their incompetent ownership and management.

I'm pretty sure most teams covet our entire defensive core.

Translation: I never had any intention of being anything other than an a-hole and wasting everyone's time, and when the Rangers came to the table with a reasonable offer, I had to get unreasonable to discourage them.

This guy deserves his impending firing and banishment from hockey.

I give Columbus fans that are sticking with Nash and calling out Howson a lot of credit.

No discouraging words for Rick Nash from Blue Jackets fans in pre-game warmup. But there was one sign: Go Nash and take Howson with you.

Aaron Portzline chat

Columbus came close to dealing Nash but it wasn't to the Rangers. Another team offered a package Columbus liked better than the Rangers offer.

They provide a link to the transcript after its over

San Jose was the other team involved. SJ doesn't have much to deal after the Burns trade. They won't deal Couture.

Was there a mystery team?

What about the rumored Nashville offer and Nash nixed that trade. Howson then seeing what he could get from Nashville probably wanted the same from the Rangers.

13:28:08 Portzline: Thanks very much, Josh. I appreciate it. Again, had lots of help from my colleagues. I think it came pretty close to happening, but not necessarily with the Rangers. They were well-publicized as a team that was heavily involved, but I've been told by a high-ranking source that the deal the Blue Jackets most seriously considered was not the Rangers. Don't know what team it might have been, but the Rangers' offer was considered no better than No. 2 on the list.

Portzline's sources are Jackets sources and they probably leaked that to downplay the Rangers' offer.
