Nice fireplace mount for the flat panel... Looks like a Panasonic Plasma, 50" ?

When you decide to mount your speakers, I highly recommend you check out WireMold products to disguise the speaker wiring and make it look clean.... In the U.S., we can purchase these products at Home Depot stores:

http://www.homedepot.com/Wiremold/h_...#/?c=1&1mq=1mq

WireMold comes in all different shapes & sizes as far as the cable channels go. I use the these thin rectangular strips in my apartment:

I run them along my white baseboards on the floor to hide speaker wire and lamp cords. In my previous apartment, I used a larger Wiremold channel to hide my HDMI & power cable for an LCD that I had wall mounted....

The wire channels have 2 sided adhesive tape affixed on the back, so you just remove the cover strip over the adhesive and apply the wire channels to your wall. They can be easily scored with a razor blade and then bended & broken to fit your appropriate size/space needs. Then you paint the wire channels the same color as your walls and they blend in nicely and are not easily discernible to the eyes.

I had to run Cat-5 ethernet cable and coax cable for my TV through a hallway of mine, I had to run the wiring over a white door frame and used Wiremold to run it seemingly and cleanly over the door frame.... I used those connector pieces you see in the first picture to make it look clean and have the channeling turn at right angles....

If you don't have access to Home Depot's in Canada, here is the website for WireMold, it's made by a company called Legrand... I'm sure you can find it somewhere by you or order it online somewhere that ships to CANADA:

http://www.legrand.us/wiremold.aspx?NewLookRedir=yes

Nice, that's the stuff... Home Depot also sells individual strips of the stuff, and you can buy the connector joints/piece separately too, so if you run out or just need a couple individual pieces, you don't have to keep buying those $25 kits....

I went through 3 of those kits hiding wires in my apartment... On the surface those 3 kits were expensive but the clean, wire-free look in my living room was worth every penny.

My main concern is the quality of the up-conversion, since I watch a lot of DVD. It would be replacing my current regular DVD player that has pretty outstanding up-conversion.
Posting this from my new NSZ GT1. Cant believe it gets so many mediocre reviews. It ties all my devices together, has PIP web browser, app support, and more.

Just got a Marantz 5006 from accessories4less. $529 with a 2 year warranty, free shipping (2 days from FL to PA) and some cheesy surge protector. This thing is badass, and the look of their new receivers is pretty cool. It only has a maybe 2" porthole display that only does source and volume.

Bought it because I thought my old Integra's center channel died. It didn't, but oh well. EBay will find him a new home.

So I just bought a new 3D TV. And now I need to add a 3D blueray player.

My TV is a smart TV, have it connected to my home network, everything is great there, have Game Center Live, signed up for MLB package etc. My question is, with the TV being able to connect to sites like netflix on it's own, is it necessary to buy a 3d br player that connects to the internet or is buying a cheaper one that doesn't have wifi ok in this situation?

Yeah, you can get a player without networking.

I've only saw them on ebay when searching for tower speakers. I'm really just looking for a pair for 200, or less that aren't crap, but don't have to be made from alien technology.

However, the guy selling them had a whole surround sound set starting at 50 bucks...

Probably junk 'back of the van' speakers with bottom of the barrel chinese components....

You could definitely find yourself an affordable pair of tower speakers from Klipsch, Polk, JBL, or similar brands if you looked around. Lots of electronics retailers will close out previous year's models to make way for the new product and heavily discount those dated models. If you weren't located in Canada I might be able to direct you to a source, but I'm not terribly familiar with Canadian retail outlets.

I didn't want to waste a new thread on the question. But, I am having issues with my HDMI connection on my laptop. I got a 25' HDMI cable to connect to my tv because I figured wasting all day staring at a 50" plasma screen was a better idea than my little laptop screen. It is great, when it works!

Sometimes, when I plug in, it connects just fine and audio and video are great. About half the time, though, only the video will go through. Sometimes when this happens, the audio will just continue to play on my laptop but the video will be on the tv. Other times, the audio will be silent (even if I am playing music or something) on my laptop, but not be transmitted to the tv. When that happens, I go to the volume in the corner, and the little HDMI Output to the tv shows there is activity (the little green volume thing goes up and down...), but no actual sound happens!

So, any ideas? It just doesn't make sense to me that sometimes it works just fine and sometimes not at all. It'd be more sensible to just....not work, right? Haha. The other thing is, if I restart my computer and plugging it in is the first thing I do (before even opening up google chrome or whatever) then it has a slightly higher chance of working!

Edit: Just now, while typing this, the sound was playing on my laptop only. I clicked on the sound controller thing and it showed a separate one for the laptop and the HDMI out to the tv. I can mess with those levels, but now it just made the sound go away from the laptop, but it still isn't feeding to the tv!

What's the word on off brand stuff? I'm looking at 32-37 inch sets and the off brand stuff like Dynex is around 250-300 while bigger name stuff like Sony, Samsung, etc are at least 400. Is the difference in price really worth it?

I need to best deal on a 42"-50" LCD, plasma, LED.

I'm thinking about the Sceptre 42" LCD for $360... But would be willing to spend $500 on something bigger, better and very much on sale.

1080p is basically a must... But would be willing to go for a 720p Panasonic or similar brand for a very cheap price.

Edit: picked up a 46" Sanyo LCD at Wally World for only $478 before tax... So far no complaints at all. Not that huge of a difference from the 55" LG LED back in Canada, that i got so accustomed to.

Glad I didn't go for the 42"... Too small.

Finally upgraded my speakers. I did a lot of reading on other boards, and people kept recommending Energy RC series. The towers (RC50/RC70) were almost $2000 when released, and the review sites called them the best option in that price range. They're $400 now at Vanns. If anyone's looking for new speakers, buy those before they discontinue them for good. They're very, very good speakers.

So here's my setup now:

HT Receiver: Marantz SR5006
Stereo Receiver: Marantz 2270
Sansui turntable
Mains: Energy RC50
Center: Energy RCLCR
Surrounds: Energy RC10
Sub: Polk PSW10 (2nd next thing to upgrade)
TV: Insignia 42" 1080p LCD (next thing to upgrade)
Mac mini, xbox, DirecTv, etc

Is there a way to get my Shaw remote to turn on my Sony television? It can turn it off but it can't turn it on.

Also, I'm on Shaw cable and my television in one room with the cable box (the most basic one) gets certain channels (1-36, 38, and some sports channels in the 100s) and my television in another room upstairs without a box (straight cable into television) gets channels 37, and 39-60.

What's the deal with that?

This will probably seem like the most novice question in the World, but please bear with me. I have a widescreen TV and a Sony PS3 which I use for movies. Some of the movies I get or have don't display widescreen. I've tried all the different settings, but I still get the "black bars" to the sides of the picture. Is it the DVDs or is there anything I can do?

You can set your TV to "stretch" the picture to the full width of the screen, but that's all you're doing - stretching the picture horizontally, distortions and all.

So yes, it's normal to have the black bars on the side of the picture for non-widescreen DVDs.
