Slightly unrelated stat courtesy of TRH:

Terry Murray (29 games): 13-12-4

Darryl Sutter (30 games): 13-9-8.

Four games - October 15th through October 22nd, including the back-to-back-to-back shutouts.

Longest standings-points streak is nine -- from December 19th through January 5th, the team went 6-0-3 (the first game was the last Stevens game, the last eight were the first of the Sutter era).

Thanks for that. I figured it was around four. Hopefully they'll be able to catch fire starting tonight.

Pretty damn close to Murray 2.0. 4 more points out of Sutter.

The Sutter hire is the one that pushed me over the edge with Lombardi. AEG gave him another lifeline by firing Murray and he hires Sutter and keeps the assistants.

Here's the thing about this team. IF, and its a pretty big IF, they get in the playoffs, I think they'll make a LOT of noise. The system really is good for the playoffs. Its just the problem of getting there. If we make it though, whether its 6th, 7th, 8th seed, I think we go deep.

That's what we said last year. (and the year before that)

Then, all of a sudden we forgot how to play defense.

The team being without their best defensive forward probably played a role in that.

Maybe, but wasn't that player also our biggest offensive threat? It sure didn't stop us from scoring goals though....

It's a lot easier for guys like Brown, Williams etc. to step up offensively then it is for Richardson to handle the defensive responsibility of a top 6 C.

Ah I remember that....those were the good old days, huh?

What drives me crazy about this team is they're in virtually every game. The difference between winning and losing is a razor-thin edge. When do the hockey gods smile upon them?

Can soemone tell me how a team with Carter, Richards, Kopitar, Brown, Doughty and Quick isn't in the playoff hunt from now until the end of the year? On paper, that's a stunning array of riches.

Both teams in Socal are underachieving on a massive level.

But only one of them was smart enough to go a different direction with their coaching change.

One decided to hire the same coach again and are perplexed why it didn't work.

I'm not a Ducks fan, nor am I trying to insult the Kings. It just doesn't make sense to me. It should just happen, Sutter behind the bench or not. Winning is another matter, but competing during the regular season?

Two years ago we were there due to youth, and it was about getting playoff expereince. I don't think anyone epxected a long run.

Last year, I think we were in fine postion until Kopi got injured. That left us dead to rights.

This year, with our lineup and stingy D if we get in could be dangerous.

I think every Kings fan has been stumped this year. So frustrating.

I know, I'm not trying to insult either team here. It's honestly mind-boggling to me that both teams might miss this year.

We still have a solid chance of making it. Our schedule is tough, but we're only two points out atm.

And for those that say we're not playing well enough, we played a good game against Nashville and a great game against Chicago. Still have the momentum going...

I'm calling a 4 game winning streak starting tonight in Minnesota. Kings will be back into the thick of things by the second week of March.

I love your optimism and hope you are 100% correct, but man it's gonna be hard!

I see this differently:

in that I have not seen the Kings play awful most of the games in the past couple/few weeks, as they have shot a lot more than they did before, have gone up against some very hot goaltenders, outchanced most of their opponents,

lost to a very good Nashville team while on the road yesterday,

and now playing a back to back on the road with our backup (albeit a good one) goaltender,

some bounces haven't gone our way,

a few of our games we played like drek,

but the effort has been there for the most part,

and we need to stop losing more than one game per four in regulation,

to stop losing games by one goal,

win some OT and shootout games,

and we could make the 8th seed, maybe even the 7th,

and once in, you never know what can happen,

sometimes a super hot goalie can beat the better team...

Doughty has underachieved for most of the season,

Kopitar hasn't scored like he did last year,

Carter just came over,

Richards didn't score hardly at all after his concussion and layoff,

others haven't scored,

I guess that's how come we're out of a playoff spot,

but we still have a chance if we can string together some wins...
