Winning Streaks, Or the Lack Thereof

It's been quite some time since the Kings put together a winning streak. In the month of February, the Kings have not had two consecutive wins whatsoever.

They started the month off with a 3-2 win in Columbus and followed it up with a 1-0 loss against St. Louis and a 2-1 loss against Carolina.

They beat Tampa Bay 3-1, then lost by a score of 3-1 against Florida and lost to the Islanders in OT, 2-1.

Kings beat the Stars, 4-2, then get shutout 1-0 in consecutive games against Calgary and Colorado. They follow that up with a 5-4 loss against Phoenix in a shootout, and a 4-1 loss to Colorado.

Their widest margin of goals in a win this month came against Chicago when they recently shut them out, 4-0 and follow that up with a 2-1 loss against Nashville.

In total, the Kings scored 23 goals and surrendered 25 goals in the month of November, notwithstanding their last game of the month which is to be played tonight in Minnesota.

The Kings did not win two consecutive games in January either. The Kings' Win-Loss pattern for January was OTL, W, L, W, OTL, W, OTL, W, OTL, L, W. Only one of those OTL losses were in overtime, the rest were losses in a shootout. The Kings scored 25 goals and surrendered only 18 goals for the month of January.

The last time the Kings won two consecutive games was in December when they beat Phoenix and Chicago by scores of 4-3 and 2-0. Before that, they had another streak of two consecutive wins in December with wins against Toronto and Anaheim by scores of 3-2. The Kings had one other two game win streak when they beat the Sharks 2-0 in late November and won their next game against Florida, 2-1, on December 1.

LA's longest stretch of consecutive wins was back in the first month of the season, when they won four consecutive games against Philly (3-2), St. Louis (5-0), Phoenix (2-0), and Dallas (1-0). Since then, the Kings have not been able to win more than two consecutive games, with the last two-game winning streak coming in December.

That my friends is an example of an inconsistent team. We are witnessing what it is like to watch a team with no identity. Where o' where are the best players on the Kings when the team needs them the most? Now is crunch time, and this is when the supposed leaders of the team are supposed to step up, take charge, and lead the Kings on a very much needed winning streak.

Good observation. I was thinking the same thing last night.

This and how come we never seem to come back when down by a small margin? It was nice to see a little bit of a fight back there late in third. But for the most part this team just rolls over when they are down.

Who else thinks Kopitar is the kind of guy to have real confidence issues?

The scariest part about those stats is they've done all this losing in spite of having the best goaltending this team has seen in years. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it's been decades. What a waste.

It's frustrating to watch. Last season they almost always bounced back real strong next game if they had a bad one - hasn't happened this season. Also can't seem to follow up a strong performance with another one (guess that's why they haven't been getting any winning streaks).

I still think they have a "good" locker room, but as others have pointed out in various threads, seems to be more of a mental/confidence thing. Hopefully this season will at least have brought them some valuable experiences for the future.

30th in offense is not going to allow for any winning streaks. Scoring 2 goals or less per game is not conducive to winning streaks.

The Kings will have a winning streak when they start scoring goals. Don’t expect 3 consecutive shutouts by Quick again.

Would be nice if we could have one of those 8 game winning streaks of past seasons to close this out... Or even better, have one in the playoffs if we make it there

theres been a definite and obvious change in their play the last 3 games. the game against the blackhawks was very similar to tonight's game on a lot of levels, and the game against the preds was also excellent but somehow they didnt get the win. the team is playing like they are hungry which hasnt happened in three consecutive games all season...i just hope that they keep it up

Here is another obvious observation, we won a game last night and need to win more over the next few weeks if we want to get into the playoffs and ultimately win the cup. We are in a playoff hunt, the rest is just common knowledge.

Support the team or don't. What else really matters?

Not directed at anyone specifically but really, we all know what is up.

If they don't put together a winning streak any time soon, teams are going to distance themselves from the Kings. Just look at how Phoenix has leapfrogged ahead due to their astonishing streak of no regulation losses in 12 games. Colorado has also caught up to the Kings thanks to a 7-2-1 record over their last 10 games.

The Kings are in a dog fight with four other clubs for the 6-8 playoff spots, with only three points separating them from 6th place. They're 11 points behind the 5th place Predators, which I don't think they'll be able to catch up to. They better get rolling and stop sulking around, otherwise they may miss the playoffs and Dean Lombardi and most of the personnel staff may be out of jobs.

I'm looking at how much that phoenix game last week hurt us. Blowing a 3-0 lead to lose it in OT to a division rival at this time of year!? 30th ranked offensive team comes out and scores 3 in the first against a solid defensive team, lets them back in the game and goes on to lose it. That's got to among the toughest losses this year I would think. Probably gave the Yotes a huge boost too, as evident in their excellent play of late.

But yeah, no win streaks. The negativity on this board is crazy lately. We're last in offense, and haven't won back to back games in three months, and the Kings still control their destiny. This team is an anomaly. Let's just ready up for a hopefully exciting stretch run, and some playoff hockey, because that's what this team is built for!

You bring up a good point and made me look back at how many extra points the Kings have given away. The Kings have 12 OTL's, which is tied for 2nd most in the league. Those 12 extra points would have propelled the Kings to 5th place, one point ahead of Nashville. If they had won 50% of those 12 OTL's, the Kings would be sitting at 6th place, three points ahead of San Jose and Chicago. Unfortunately, they can't look back and have to push forward, but I'm stating those facts to prove a simple point and an old saying: every point matters.

The OTL are already hurting the Kings with the tiebreaker. It would suck to just miss out because of that.
