Bring back Kovalev, Dags and Gill next year for the powerplay, the shootout and then PK.

And while we're at it, bring back Schneider too.

Who wants Hamrlik back again? Who?

Being shopped less than 5 months into his new contract. Yeah, that's Gauthier's biggest loss

Extract: (... Hunter elected to keep Hamrlik out of the lineup because he felt that the 37-year-old defenceman 'took a bad penalty last game'... "You should ask him [Hunter] about penalties," Hamrlik told 106.7 The Fan Radio in Washington. "When he played I think he made lots of penalties himself, so he should know better." ...)

He is right!

I do not know the whole story so I am not implying that he should not be scratched but it was a brutal reason.

Btw not replacing Hamrlik's contribution (an experienced D who, contrary to a guy like Gill, can eat a lot of even strength minutes) will probably be the cause of Gauthier's downfall imo.

I side with Hunter. If you're going to take penalties, that at least be a super ****** about it and score a ****ton of points rather than be a soft, old man.

Watching Epinal vs Grenoble (French league playoffs). Loïc Lacasse, drafted by Montreal in 2004 in net for Epinal, along with his brother, Chad (LW)

That was the random info of the day

Do you consider Kovalev a captain for the habs?

I have never seen his name in the capatins list for the habs, but he did wear the C for more than just a couple of games...

in your opinion, should he be considered as one of the captains for the habs?

No, never! He was not a leader, Komisarek was a better leader than Kovalev.

Did he wear a C during regular season? If so he should be on the list.

The only leader was Koivu, no one else.

Yes he should. Kovalev and Koivu, both were leaders on the team.

Kovalev had the C on his chest for a couple of games (10-15?). And team had success when he was.

Even an 'interim Captain' is a captain.

Koivu was unable to galvanize everyone (he was not an unifying force) and he had feud with everyone talented enough to challenge his TOI: Ribeiro and Kovalev are good examples.

He was a feisty and gifted player (Gomez Gainey ) but in recent history guys like Gainey, Carbonneau, Damphousse and Muller are way ahead of him in the captain department.

Kovalev was one of the leaders of the team on the ice. When players went down, he upped his game and everyone else did. Not like this current piece of **** team.

Don't know about that assessment. Isn't it more accurate to say that, over his 10 years as captain, Ribeiro is the only player that "feuded" over ice time (how was Kovalev ever in competition for Koivu's playing time??) and couldn't be "kept in line", to the point that it actually became an issue?

So "everyone talented enough" is really just one guy. Over a 10 year period. And a guy with questionable work ethic and off ice behaviour, to boot. If anything, considering how bad team was over those years, perhaps Koivu should have been getting in more faces instead of just showing everyone what they should be doing on the ice every night.

As for the Kovalev question, he wore the C, but he was definitely a "best player in the lineup" captain, not a "leadership" captain.

Nice job VV :p

I don't think we can... normally, we should only consider as captains the players who have been chosen captain by their peers. Not those who got the A and wore the C when the Captain was injured. But I have to admit, when he had the C, it seemed like Kovy was someone else... way better

most of the captains in the nhl today arent elected by the other players, they are named by the coaching staff...

personnally i think he should be considered as a captain, not only because of the level of play he brought to the habs (most talented player weve had in a loooong time IMO) but because he was one of the most liked players the habs had (see petition and demonstration to keep him)

I know, but then again, it doesn't really matter how liked a player he was, or how talented he was. The only reason he wore the C at some point, is because the real captain was injured. And I know they're not always chosen by the team, but in Montreal they were, and that's how Saku became captain. I don't think any "interim captain" that had the honor of having the C for a couple of games because of injuries should be considered captains in the team's history...

How's our Captain situation now that Gionta is gone for the season? Yeah nothing. Kovalev displayed leadership on and off the ice, it isnt required for a team to name an interim if the Captain is injured (Philly says hello). Kovalev deserved it then, he deserves it now.

(at least when he was here it was fun to watch this team play)
