Hags made a splash since day 1 wearing a Rangers uniform, with his breathtaking speed and skating. But he's really established himself as a complete player, doing the backchecking, battling on the boards, and as of late, really starting to turn it on as a scorer. With his youth and potential upside, would it be fair to say that he's become an untouchable commodity on the roster?

basically this. For all we know it can be more of a "flash in the pan" ala Prucha, and just drift off next year. Also he has been up for not even a whole season, he is no where near untouchable on this team. Personally: Lundqvist, McD, Cally, Staal and to a extent MDZ are untouchable, but as mentioned previously, everyone is replacable with the right offer.
I see what you guys mean. Maybe "untouchable" wasn't the best term to use. Of course, if you have the opportunity to pull off an insane deal that can get you the likes of Stamkos w/o breaking the bank but Haglin had to be one of the pieces involved, one can never say never. But what are the chances of that happening?
Still, I've seen a lot of Ranger prospects come and go over the years. And I have a good feeling that Hags will develop into something really special.
Who replaces Hagelin's speed? He adds a dimension to this team that opposing teams have to worry about when they draw up their game plan. He can beat out icing calls, he gets on the opposing players backs faster than they expect which forces turnovers.
Its similar to how callahan provides leadership, grit, pk ability, shot blocking, hitting, forechecking, and scoring.
Are these guys untouchables? No...but theyre damn near close to it. Hagelin has 11 goals in 43 GP. He missed 18 games playing in CT. He could be closing in on 20 right now, who knows. But that is pretty damn impressive for a 1st year rookie
I'd say McDonagh is untouchable also. Usually it takes longer for defensemen to develop, but this guy was playing 2nd pairing minutes at age 21 and is now playing top pairing minutes at age 22. He is a guy that you would regret trading in 5 or 6 years when he is at the top of his game (I'm sure the Habs will, LOL).
No, not "untouchable". But he would never be traded. He's worth much more to the Rangers than he would be to any other team. Someone would have to make a gross overpayment and I don't see that happening.
Hags is going to be quite good. I see future 25-goal scorer written all over him.
You wouldn't trade Callahan for Malkin for example?
In my next post I mentioned how there are obviously better players then Callahan, just didn't see a realistic trade in which I would do it. Maybe some think otherwise, but I don't see Malkin being traded as a possibility.
