In my next post I mentioned how there are obviously better players then Callahan, just didn't see a realistic trade in which I would do it. Maybe some think otherwise, but I don't see Malkin being traded as a possibility.
Sorry. I have a bad habit of quoting a post before reading the subsequent posts. You're right, the only guys that I'd trade Callahan would probably be unavailable.

All good, figured that was the case.
Was thinking, someone should make a poll and we vote on our top ten untouchables from 1-10. Obviously Hank would be first, and Callahan would be my second. But I think it could get real interesting and be a good debate over who would be more valuable to us in the future, between players such as McD, Stepan, MDZ etc...

I'd go with McD over Hagelin every day and twice on sundays. McDonagh is the much better player now and will probably be better in the future. I also think the chances that Hagelin gets traded are much higher.
I agree. His value to us is probably greater than it is in a trade.
I feel like that is said about so many players though throughout the league and it can't possibly be true for all of them or players would never get traded.
I do feel it is true with Hagelin in this case in particular.
Why Del Zotto isn't listed on some of your lists is questionable. He might be one of the best puck moving defenseman in our generation before all is said and done.

This year may be a fluke and he'll turn in to a giant pile of crap, too.
That's like your parents telling you one day you might be president when you're older.
He's playing well, but let's not be ridiculous.

It is no fluke. He has shown his offensive prowess to not be a fluke with his impressive rookie season (offense wise) and now this season. He put up impressive offensive numbers at the expense of defense in his first season, now he is committed to playing defense first and offense second and it has shown wonders for him. He had all the tools to be a great defenseman except it just took him time to learn how to use them. Not every one is a defensive rock from day one (except Ryan McDonagh maybe)
basically this. For all we know it can be more of a "flash in the pan" ala Prucha, and just drift off next year. Also he has been up for not even a whole season, he is no where near untouchable on this team. Personally: Lundqvist, McD, Cally, Staal and to a extent MDZ are untouchable, but as mentioned previously, everyone is replacable with the right offer.
You're kidding yourself if you think Staal and even MDZ are untouchables. Hank is the only true untouchable player on the team.
If MDZ isn't untouchable, McD isn't either. Both of them bring a dynamic aspect to the blueline nobody else does- McD is our best two-way d-man and MDZ is by far our best offensive d-man.

McDonagh is an incredible athlete and a freakish physical speciman. He can do things on the ice that other defensemen can only dream about.

That's a little strong but he is a terrific passer and is gifted offensively speaking.
Everything depends on the trade. For example Stamkos, Malkin and Giroux are players that you would have to move some of your "untouchables" for. But that's it. It's a very short list.

I'd consider them both untouchable.
I don't think he's "by far" our best offensive d-man. 5 on 5 they are about equal I would say. McDonagh hardly gets any PP time so it's hard to judge how he would fair if given enough minutes on it
