Weird.

Why would he out his source by saying who that player is? Cause tbh I kinda think it's very possible. However if it's a rift in the dressing room, how would you out your source when there are like 21 players in the dressing room.

I usually hate Brady myself, and hate that I don't have any othr option for sports talk in the morning on the way to work early in the morning . . . but in this case, I believe him.

He said he wanted to protect his sources, thus, didn't want to say who the young player was. I get that. And, it's not hard to guess about there being a rift in the dressing room with Phaneuf and another.

(btw - a "riff" is a nice melodic sequence, usually on guitar - a "rift" is a gap or distance which has opened up, in this case between two players)

So unfortunately, looking at all the evidence available . . . it seems clear that it's Phaneuf and Schenn, based on his play, actions, etc. And it's clearly affecting the defence.

As an aside . . . I am really, really souring on Phaneuf.

Heh, I'm not so sure I can believe this.

Does this literally mean younger than Phaneuf? Or just a young guy on the team. If it's the former...

Guys that can be immediately ruled out:

Liles
Komisarek
Lupul
Armstrong
Connolly
Crabb
Lombardi
Steckel
Gustavsson

Are all older than Phaneuf

Then:

MacArthur
Rosehill
Brown
Bozak

Are all the same age

And to eliminate guys that make sense:

Kessel (they appear to be good buddies)
Gunnarsson (his D partner. Would he play with someone he didn't get along with?)
Frattin (In and out of the lineup, can't imagine him being enough of a presence to cause a riff)
Gardiner (Rookie, seems really quiet and composed, seems like someone who would want to just show up to do his job and help out however he can)

So that leaves:

Schenn
Kulemin
Reimer
Franson

Maybe Franson? Because he did have issues earlier in the year about getting into the lineup, and bringing those out publicly? Maybe he makes a big issue of it behind the scenes?

Anyways, I bet Brady just means a young guy, so if I had to guess, it would be one of:

Grabovski
Schenn
Franson

He definitely has inside sources. His co-worker David Alter is the Leafs beat writer for the FAN590 and frequents the dressing room. How is that not an inside source?

Dion is a good secondary leader.
Leafs need another voice of leadership among the players.

Back when the Leafs were winning playoff rounds there was the Gary Roberts group and the Corson group within the room.
That is while Sundin was the captain.
Secondary leadership is what is needed for this young team.

St Louis hit it on the head when they signed both Jason Arnott and Jamie Langenbrunner this past off season.

I don't really care whether this is true or not, but anyone actually trying to play Guess Who and figure out who this young player may be needs to step away from the computer.

Clearly the coach makes the lines, but it seems to me if two guys that were at odds had to make a D pairing, they wouldn't play well together.

you would think wrong.

being buddies or not has nothing to do with playing well or not well together

I never said they were "buddies".

If there was enough of an issue to cause a dressing room rift, then it would be hard for them to play well with each other.

Wouldn't shock me if it were Reimer. Neon is a total me-first idiot and Reimer seems like a pretty quiet guy who's a big Christian. I can see a jerk like Neon taking shots at a guy like Reimer. Would explain a lot about Reimer's play this year.

Was at game last night. Neon is just a joke. Long shifts all the time and constantly hammering his stick on the ice for passes even when he's not even close to open. The guy clearly thinks that games are always on him. You can tell he's an insufferable jerk just by the way he plays.

okay, forget buddies, people don't have to get along to play well together. and people who get along don't necessarily play well together.

all I'm saying is how they feel towards each other has nothing to do with it.

It was little Sally from the Timbits team that gets to play on the ACC ice during the first intermission, she called Dion a "Doo-Doo head" as he was heading to the locker room, she's a real agitator.

I wouldn't put much stock into this, sounds like Dion was not enamoured with a young guy's preparation, and just spoke to him. No different than Thornton talking to Seguin about missing team meetings. Happens all the time, only difference is in Toronto this is news.

It's probably Schenn. As the reports have stated, Wilson hates Schenn... Phaneuf has probably drank the cool aid and that's why he sucks as a captain too. Schenn is probably going against Wilson..

Schenn for Captain!!!

Its probably Schenn. Say what you will about his on ice play, hes a leader and actually sticks up for his team, and per last night takes full responsibility when he ****s up. Honestly if Schenn couldve repeated last years performance Id much rather see the C on him. Even now, maybe toss an A on him and give him some confidence. I mean, our regular assistant captains frequent the press box so obviously it doesnt hold too much stock with Wilson. Might give the kid a push

Don't know if I believe it or not, but at the same time I don't expect things to be sunshine and flowers in the dressing room when you are in the midst of blowing your season after holding a playoff spot for the entire year pretty much.
