Timonen is too old, Briere is too weak, Giroux is too young.

We do not have anyone else who is worthy. Roll with 3 A's

There's no way Pronger will be back. The comments of his wife regarding his status say it all.

That being said:

Shelley is too ugly.
Hartnell is too hairy.
Talbot is too beardy.
JVR is too awkward.
Schenn is too pretty.
Couturier is too blond.
Simmons is too cool.
Vorachek is too Czech.
Jagr doesn't have enough vowels in his name.

I could do this all day.

Too early

A young team, many new faces...
Give them the rest of the season to gel and sort things out.

If Pronger can't come back next season, you ask Kimmo. If he turns it down because of age/pending retirement why not turn towards a team guy like Max Talbot? He will work hard on the ice and not shy away from the media after the games. And he is signed long term.

Giroux is busy already with being the team's leading scorer...

I remember when they took the C away from Yzerman when he got old. Old age (i.e. experience) is certainly a negative when it comes to the captaincy.

As much as I hate the rangers, I can't hate Callahan... wish he were a flyer.

This. 100%. I would absolutely it if Ryan Callahan could somehow end up in orange and black, but I think that's past a pipe dream.

Yea Callahan is awesome.

I personally think Richards and Callahan are incredibly similar. Richards just has more talent.

I think Giroux would make a great captain.

Not even a doubt in my mind. Giroux is going to be the captain of this team in time, but I still say give it another 2 or 3 years before bestowing that kind of responsibility upon him.

"C" stands for "cursed" not "captain" in Philadelphia

I want him to cement himself as an elite player before giving him the C. Hell, he's struggling somewhat right now with the great deal of increased on ice attention being paid to him by other teams. Let him work that out, make sure he continues to develop. In a year or two, when he shows that he's consistently a ppg player, let him have the added responsibility.

Yes, but I entertained myself writing it. Which is the most important part.

Why exactly do certain people think Giroux would make a good captain?

briere has tenure on the team and a strong relationship with giroux who can act act as a go between with the young players. tomonen captains the defense regardless. I'd see him getting it first.

Give Timonen the C. Once he retires, give future Captains a "T" to symbolize that they are attempting to fill Timonen's shoes.

It seems like the media and fanbase think "C" stands for "Clarke Replacement." That standard is incredibly high. "Timonen Replacement" is also impossible, but less so.
