Not getting Parise and likely not getting Suter, especially if Markov proves healthy. I would target a top four D or two and a couple of grinders. We will have to be patient regarding a 1 centerman.

Yeah, right. Get unrealistic expectations and then blame the GM.

I hope you forgot the

Wideman is very Wiz-like except worse defensively if that's possible. He will get Wiz money too but for entertainment value that third pair of Kaberle and Wideman would be downright comical.

I like Parenteau and Jackman too.

i dont want ANY part of getzlaf, if any of you have seen him play...its beyond soft. You guys like to complain about plekanec who actually works hard...but watching getzlafs effort would make you as bald as he is.

With that said, with the way the pittsburgh doctors screwed up Crosby's 'concussion' problems...he would have every right to sign somewhere else after they nearly sabotaged him. Time for Sid to rejoin his childhood team, it would make his father so proud!

As for this years crop, i only want suter. everyone else can buzz off.

Otherwise keep the money and tank once more. MacKinnon > any UFA
You say that like MacKinnon is actually a serious possibility. They'd have to beat out a bunch of terrible franchises to get 30th to have any serious chance at 1st overall and then still its just a 50% chance. Really they won't finish last with Price in net, someone will manage to have both a terrible lineup and no goaltending and be worse so you're basically talking about winning the lottery.

Garrison is indeed interesting, although he's kind of like PK in that he does he is his best offensively when someone else is setting up the play for one of his bombs to go through.

I doubt that we could sign Parise or Suter.

I won't sign Semin at $6M, but I'm not sure at $5M though, would you sign him at $5M ?

I don't expect us to stand a chace at Parise or Suter but throw everything at them and hope for a miracle.

After that, depending on whether we draft a winger or centre, Parenteau isn't bad for depth. His overall game has improved.

For defense, Jackman and/or Garrison would be great.

As for Parise and Suter, I doubt that we have what it takes to attract them but I sure hope that we can at least give it a shot. I'd like Jackman though, he could be a good consolation prize.

I would certainly give him an offer at 5 million, even if its just for due diligence's sake. Only just a bit more than Kovalev was paid here, but that's compensated by the bigger cap. And I don't even like him that much.

Parise would be nice but Suter is really the guy I want. This team needs more help on the back end then they do up front. If they can't get Suter then I hope that they can at least bring in another decent top 4 D-man.

If only we could land Suter and Markov came back fine, we'd have a sweet top four:

Markov-Suter
Subban-Gorges

Of course, too many if's there.

Forgot about Garrison. He would bring back memories of Souray. In a good way - that shot from the point.

Yeah, I don't see that one as a good move. I think he knows he's got it good in NYI and will re-sign there, so I don't expect him to be fielding offers this summer anyway.

I do like the idea of Gaustad. But part of me sees that move as a deadend. There are times when a team can splurge on a premier role player. The time doesn't seem right for the Habs. Having said that, it seems that management didn't want to trade Darche and Moen, which indicates to me a preference to keep role players rather than exchange them for futures commodities, which suggests to me that they might be inclined to try to buy one on the UFA market too.

It's pleasing to fantasize about Suter and Parise but I'm not sure that a big dollar UFA is the right approach. This season has been so bad, on so many levels, that I don't know how anyone could properly evaluate what the team needs. The truth is that no one knows just how much of the badness can be attributed to a conspiracy of injury, change, and development curves.

I wouldn't be looking at significant UFA acquisitions this summer. I would focus on getting a GM, who would hire his own coach and then take the time it takes to shape the team.
