Kinda feel like this is the elephant in the living room no one wants to talk about. Someone has to go. Is it Bernier or Quick. DL has been here before. Not sure what he did in San Jose but he had 3 good goalies there. Did he keep the one everyone thought he would? I feel that either goalie can be good in our system. Quick has more value does he pull the trigger on him and score JVR and Voracek and a pick or something along those lines. Does he keep Quick pay him 6 mill a year...yikes.... and trade Bernier for what he can get for him. Does DL sit on them for another year? Either way we have a great goalie for the long haul. I expect some flaming and so forth but it still is a topic I would like to learn and talk about. Hope it does not turn into a bash on our goalies, again both are great and would excell in our system.
Quick has cemented his place on this team and he should not be traded. JB goes when Lombardi can get something great back in return. I imagine there will be a few teams dying to get a legit #1 this summer.
Unless Quick demands Rinne type money you keep him. He's bigger than Bernier, always says the right things and seems to be liked in the locker room. Not that Bernier isn't but Quick is everything you want from a goalie right now.
Quick has way more trade value but even then I don't see how you could possibly trade the team MVP with the history of goaltending in this organization.
You do... if you feel the backup can play at or better than the starter's level -- and you feel the starter would bring back more in a trade.

When you have a player as good as Quick, the whole concept to becoming a superior team is to keep a guy like that, not trade him.
Hopefully, the GM cares what his trade value is.
I'm not advocating for a trade of Quick. I'm just pointing out that maybe, just maybe, Bernier can play at the same level or better than Quick. If so, then it makes sense to trade Quick.
Unfortunately, we'll never know unless Bernier gets more playing time.

Nabokov was an established starter since 00-01. Kiprusoff was the backup in 02-03 but was not very good (5-14-0, .879, 3.25), and Toskala saw some time with big club due to that (4-3-1, .927, 2.35) despite playing most of the season in AHL. I believe DL was fired following the 2003 season, so he never made the decision.
In 03-04 they went with Toskala as the backup, with Kipper just sitting in the press box from what I can tell until he was traded to Calgary for a 2nd Round Pick in November. Toskala would later be traded to Toronto following the 06-07 season.

That was Wilson, And Kipper was downright awful in 02-03, it was the right call, Toskala had been lights out as a backup in 02-03/03-04. Nabokov was a star also for many years (00-10), it was not a big loss to SJS.

The Habs also traded Halak after that great postseason run, I think because they like Price's talent more. For all we know, Dean could be thinking the same way.

Ah ic, sorry. Well yeah it's true. But with established star Nabokov and fellow youngster Toskala badly outplaying Kipper for the backup spot, it was the right move.
For Kings it is so much tougher since the top prospect and established starter are both playing so well.
Ideally, I think if we could get a return like SJS got for Toskala(traded with 3rd/4th liner Mark Bell for a 1st, 2nd and 4th, later taking that 1st and 2nd and moving up to take Couture) for Bernier and lock up Quick long-term we are laughing, IMO.
I think Quick should definitely stay. He's been the foundation that has weathered quite a storm this year, and he's proven.
That said, I actually feel safer, in a way, when Bernier is out in goal. Quick tends to sprawl on a lot of saves. The 2nd chances he creates sometimes scare the crap out of me. But damn are they awesome saves. Bernier, on the other hand, always seems so calm and poise. When teams attack, even on 3-on-2, he's so well-positioned and chill... "come at me bro" kind of attitude.
