Which player is the King's best "secret weapon"?

For me, there's no doubt:

ALEC MARTINEZ

The dude displays an excellent sense of when & how hard to put the puck on the net, creating nice chances in front of the net.

Voynov gets more press, leaving Alec kind of back in the shadows.

But that might be the best situation for Alec.

He's looked more assertive offensively since JJ's departure, and he
to have have a finer sense than JJ of how & when to put the puck on net when we have guys in front, or near the net.

I look for Alec to get hot and have a 3-assist game or 2 in the
coming weeks.
He could mature into a low-goal/high-assist kind of D-Man, who gets something like 6 or 7 goals, but 30+ assists (with PP time, obviously).

Nobody expects Alec Martinez!!!!

Runner-up:
Brad Richardson (if he could ever start a pattern of finishing!)

Voynov is simply the better player, going both ways.

I feel Martinez had a better year last year, but then again, last year he wasn't injured and then lost his job due to the injury, as he did this year.

Perhaps with JJ gone he will have the confidence necessary to play a more consistent brand of hockey...he certainly looked good last night.

Nobody ever takes a step towards Martinez to defend him. Comparing him to guys like Jack and DD make no sense since every team sold out to take them out of the play.

Can you imagine Penner exploding in the first round of the playoffs with 4 goals and 4 assists?

"Scott Parse, hockey player. A man barely alive."
"Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic hockey player. Scott Parse will be that man. Better than he was before. Better...stronger...faster."

Martinez has played well, but saying he is better than Johnson is just not true. If anyone is going to fill Johnson's spot, it's Voynov, not Martinez. A-Mart will play solidly for awhile, then move on as someone else takes his spot, just like what is happening to Drewiske.

I believe Voynov is more dangerous offensively and defensively. He's got a strong shot from the point and has shown great defensive positioning and presence.

Brian Boyl...oh wait...
Matt Mouls...oh wait...
Teddy Purce...oh wait...
Bud Hollow...oh wait...
Oscar Moll...oh wait...
Wayne Simm...oh wait...
Scott Pars...oh wait...

Everyone good on the Kings is either famous, well-talked over in the recent trade talks or is gone.

Jarret Stoll.

He takes a lot of heat from fans, but I really like him as a third line center, especially in the playoffs. Great face-off guy for big time draws in the defensive zone, very solid defensively and on the PK, has some solid offensive upside with his big shot for a third liner.

He's the type of guy who gets overlooked/criticized in the regular season but takes on added importance in the playoffs.

Good picks here, assuming all are healthy for the playoffs.

I'd also like to throw Dwight King and Clifford into the mix. King because of his size and who he plays with, Clifford simply because he was our secret weapon last year.

Reading this thread makes me realize how much I truly love our roster and how shocking it is that we're not higher in the standings.

Any one of these guys could explode at any moment and lead the team on a tear. It has to happen sooner or later, right?

The NHL will not be able to contain cybernetic Scott Parse.

Right now, though, he may be the most talented dude with the body durability of a drunk infant.

Reminds me of the Kings vs. Vancouver series where they couldn't stop the PP. I was like, oh, THATS why he still has a job...he's been hustling us the whole time!

Turns out the players had just stopped listening for that brief period.
