Good. Miller playing like Bernie Parent circa 1975 plus Wifey at the game so he was showing off.
Bad. The announcers saying what a great effort by the sabes. Why ?? Because we won????? Defense is just Horrid. Cant get the puck out of the zone for nothing. This team has played that way off and mostly on for the last 25 years.
Ugly. Rent the sabes Rocky 1-5 learn how to throw em.
Can't quite agree with you on the defense. They played well. Kept the lanes clear, sorted traffic, cleared rebounds and minimized Duck possession in the zone until the third when the shell came out.
Good:
CoHo
Ehrhoff
Sekera again
Myers was rather unnoticeable which is always good.
Roy was chippy to start the game and it paid off
Regehr was physical
Bad:
Refs were just inconsistent all around and lost control at the end
Ducks were snake bitten
Stafford blows so many opportunities every game.
Leino made a few risky passes that very easily could have resulted in odd man rushes
Leopold is a typical Type B personality
Ugly:
Why is Matt Ellis on our team? I do not understand what he offers. Would it be that detrimental for any of our already depleted farm team members to just play in his spot instead? At least they'd have something to prove. Ellis doesent score, doesent fight, and his puck possession skills on the wall have regressed this season completely. I don't know many organizations that would have a spot for him in their roster.
G- MILLER!, Coho (3-4 scoring chances), Ennis, Stafford, Ehrhoff
The amount of Sabres fans chanting lets go buffalo with a few minutes to go! Also the team sticking up for one another is something we lacked all year!
B- The broadcasting is horrid. We seriously need to have a casting similar to American Idol of broadcasting or something! Our bottom 2 lines were meh. I thought Leino had a good game with Gerbe though.
The amount of time it took to get that glass replaced gave the momentum back to the Ducks haha
U- We play tomorrow night against San Jose
Myers had a horrible game with 4-5 turn overs
Ducks top 3 players fighting at the end lol!

Corey Perry
Matt Ellis is on our team because a) he's cheap, and b) he doesn't screw up. Yes, he doesn't really help, but you could do a lot worse on your fourth line. Having a guy you can throw out for 10 minutes and know nothing is going to happen (in either direction) is not the worst thing in the world.
The Sabres won't win games because of a 4th liner. But they can lose them if that 4th liner makes stupid mistakes. Matt Ellis reduces that risk.

Fair enough. That's sound logic. I just feel as though he's become complacent in his role and a younger guy would at least throw the body around some. We are a very small team, especially regarding our forwards, and when guys like Ellis, and Stafford as well but that's another matter, refuse to play physical, we are at a disadvantage.
Good: Coho is going to be fantastic, just has a great sense and spacing to be in the right areas consistantly. I am so excited he is here. Hands are filthy.
Miller played fantastic, 3 of those saves were especially noterworthy.
Bad: Ennis not so noticable on the wing.
Stafford being set up consistantly by Coho and Ennis to no Avail (what else do you expect)
Ugly: Just let Duff be the only one to talk from now on please?
Tomorrow is one of those nights where getting a point will be acceptable. Although we've had some crazy heroics against San Jose in recent games if I remember correctly, so who knows.
Miller was fantastic. Obviously. Just a stellar game.
Ennis-Hodgson are going to be great together if that's how Ruff wants to keep it. Two very different but very talented offensive players who are capable of being good two-way players. Hodgson won't have to wait long for his first Sabres goal with the kind of chances he and his linemates showed capable of creating.
For the most part a perfect road game. Allowed themselve to get hemmed in a lot in the 3rd but within that context the defense kept lanes clear for Miller to work his magic. They could have helped themselves by cleanly winning and transitioning the puck out of the zone but otherwise it was a solid game.
Good to hear that Hodgson had a great game. I had class therefore couldn't watch (from Vancouver, BC). I have a feeling that he will pop one in soon since the East is definitely more open in than the West.
Hope he keeps it up, but when Saturday comes around, I'm sorry guys I'm going to be rooting for the Hometown Boys!!!
You can thank Manny Maholtra for Hodgson's faceoff ways. He was brutal, but this year has been consistently better thanks to Manny mentoring him.
Why is that good you ask?
Because if memory serves, all Sabres deadline acquisitions in recent memory who had great debuts (Steve Heinze, Bernier) proceed to suck soon after that.
So yeah, here's to Cody having a long and productive career as a Buffalo Sabre.
Miller was.... Godlike. He's really come on in the last month.
Hodgson was good tonight. I loved what I saw out of him. I thought for sure he was going to score on that 2-1, but oh well.
The line brawl in the last minute was fun. See, we don't need Gaustad! Myers having his first career fight was awesome. Didn't do much, but as others have pointed out, he was trying to go lefty and it didn't work out great.

Just because he didn't record any points doesn't make it a good omen. See: Torres, Raffi.
-Honestly Cody played a pretty nice first game in the blue and gold. Seeing him in Hiller's grill was encouraging. Shows that he's willing to get his hands dirty. Was in on a couple good scoring chances.
-Miller was absolutely nasty. Best part, Ryan didn't give Schopp and Bulldog that bad game to blame Goose's absence on.
-Sekera was the best dman tonight. But great team defense.
-Roy and Ennis both creating chances.
-Ducks played a pretty determined 3rd period. 20 shots.
B:
-Not much. Maybe a bit too much sitting back and protecting a lead in the 3rd.
U:
-Ducks meltdown in the last minute and after the game. They were frustrated as hell and feelin froggy. I don't see any of our guys getting calls from Shanny, though.

I'm with Corto. My father got this into my head when I was kid. He said that it was bad luck if a guy scores in his 1st game with a new team. Guys that I can think of off the top of my head who did it with the Sabres are Geoff Sanderson, Steve Bernier, and Brad Boyes. Although I think Perreault scored in his 1st game, so the superstition doesn't completely hold up.
U:
- Sylvester and Gare ... they should never return to our broadcast booth after this season
Ya know what reeeeally bugs me about Sylvester? He uses some of RJ's more quaint expressions---which sounds fine for a 70 yr old guy, but NOT for a guy in his 30s!!!

Perfect example: "DARN TOOT'N!"
I cringe when he does stuff like that.
There's that and then there's his Jack Edwards impersonations ... also when he did the tribute for Brian Drabek tonight, it made my skin crawl ... I just want him gone, the sooner, the better.
G: what a game by miller! Absolutely stole the show.
Hodgson looked good out there, can't wait to see what a little chemistry does for him here. Also can't wait to see how he looks with different linemates (though I'm not pushing for this, that line looked great)
Didn't notice any less "toughness"
Good start to a road trip
B:
Myers and his turnovers
Ducks in the last 5 mins
Not much to complain about
U:
Sylvester
West coast trip while working 3rd shift sucks.. Caught the first period before work and then streamed the last half of the game on a horrible quality stream via iPad. Oh well atleast I could watch, I'll be doing the same tomorrow
