When do we find out what the CBA/cap will be going into this offseason? I'm a bit behind on all that technical crap.
Around may 15th (120 days before 9/15) is the last day either side can opt out of the current cba. If neither does, I believe it stays in effect for another year.
Now that we don't have a 2nd or 3rd rounder in 2013 - I don't think the Hawks can offersheet anyone, can they?
You can trade to get picks back if you want to offer sheet someone. Offer sheets are very rare though. I don't think it'd be hard to trade a 2014 2nd round pick to get a 2013 3rd round pick and offer Oshie $3.5 mil. Plus who knows what the RFA rules will be after the new CBA.
I'm assuming it'll probably be Pirri. He's young and bad defensively, but I doubt we trade for one in the off-season and he's a PPG player in the AHL at a young age.
Considering McNeill is still a bit younger and already seems to have a good two-way game, I imagine he would (if he makes our team) play as our 4th line center and work his way up.
Stalberg-Toews-Kane
Sharp-Pirri-Hossa
I imagine is what we'll start with next year... if Pirri doesn't mesh well or still looks mediocre defensively, he'll go back down and we'll be back to where we are now until Pirri is ready. Sharp/Kane/Kruger will be stop gaps until then, IMO.
I would chub for Oshie. If it is possible to offer sheet him that would be great. But with the CBA in flus nobody is sure what the new cap, rules, etc. are going to be. Might make for a more interesting off season.
Make St. Louis match. Its what San Jose did with Hjalmersson. The Blues have 19 players that are either RFA's or UFA's over the next 2 season. Next year Stewart, Oshi, Perron are RFA's and Arnott, Langdenbruner, Jackman and Coliocovo are UFA's. The year after Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Cole, Russel, D'Agostini, and Berglund are RFAs and McDonald and Crombeen are UFA's.
Blues are going to have to pay the piper or else lose some of these players, why not make them overpay Oshie?
The Kane we saw last night is the same Kane I was referring to yesterday in this thread. There is no reason that he can’t play center in this league and thrive.
As I said, Duchene-O'Reilly are their 1-2 punch for the future so Stastny isn't really needed (luxury problem for sure). Guessing they would like to upgrade their D if he is moved and then we're not a great fit, we'll see.
I don't know. We have McNeill who could/should be ready in a year. Trade Bolland for a guy who would be probably our 4th/5th best F (but makes more than Toews/Kane) for a year. Then what do you do with McNeill?
I haven't seen McNeill at all in the Dub but in prospects camp/WJC orientation camp he did not look anywhere near NHL ready. I'd wager he spends some time in Rockford after juniors.
I personally think the Hawks should have Kane play center and go after a talented winger in the offseason. Why not take a run a Semin on a 1-2 year deal. I believe that the following top two lines would be rather good.
Stalberg - Toews - Sharp
Semin - Kane - Hossa
I know I might get flamed for this but I think Semin could turn it around with the Hawks because playing with Kane and Hossa could utilize his talents. I know he has some bagage but how much of that is the situation he is in?
Also first time posting here but I look forward to discussing and arguing about our beloved Blackhawks.

No problem going after a top-6 winger, but I'd prefer a legit 2C that can win faceoffs. Kane is just way too awful at the dot for that to work consistently. Grabovski's speed looked pretty attractive last night (even though he made some mistakes defensively).
Honestly I think Kruger has done pretty much what could be expected of him this season. 18 pts in 55 games as a rookie, 46.5% at the dot. Not great, but not terrible. If I were coach, I'd have Bolland in between Sharp & Hossa and Kruger on the 3rd line.

Would be absolutely shocked if we see McNeill in the NHL before 2013 and 2014 would be a stretch as well.

What left does he need to do in juniors. He's better than a PPG guy there. His upside is 2nd-line C it looks like, might as well see what he can do in Rockford next season. After that, hopefully he's ready.

I agree he has not been great at face-offs but I think he would for sure get much better at it as he goes due to his hand-eye coordination and intelligence. I also think another summer of getting stronger will help has well.
FYI I name changed.
