Please, don't consult the dead puck era when it comes to goaltender performance.

And if you so much as breathe on a goaltender you get an interference penalty

So I guess there are going to be complaints every time Biron starts right down until the end of the season?

Even Lundqvist himself admits less starts is better if he wants to make a deep playoff run:

Quote:
"You look at the last probably 10 years, teams that have been winning, their starting goalie hasn’t been playing over 65 games. It’s been 50-60, maybe 65 tops,” Lundqvist said. “It’s a long season if you want to make it all the way.”

Lunqdvist has appeared in 27 of the Rangers‘ 36 games so far, a healthy amount but much less than previous seasons. It has already paid off, as he is enjoying a sublime start: 16-7-4 with a 1.91 GAA and .937 save percentage.

“I can tell in December, usually — not beat up — but you can tell you’ve been playing a lot of hockey,” Lundqvist said. “Right now, I feel really fresh, and I’m excited to play. I think it helps my game.”

I really want to see a high scoring game with some gorgeous goals scored by the Rangers. 8-2 Win. Dubinsky with hat trick.

good luck to you guys.... I don't hate the Rangers, in fact I like them a little bit cause of the colors and goal horn song...If I actually got MSG up here when the Whale left, I'd probably have converted to a ranger fan..

Anyway, should be a good game, good luck in the playoffs

I'm looking at Dubi, Richie, and Gabby to power us through this one. Also a good chance for Stepan to step up. No pun intended.

I'm predicting a 4-2 win with a couple PPGs.

Guys, Richter and Brodeur are stand-up goaltenders. Now we have almost all butterfly goaltenders with a few oddballs like Biron and Tim Thomas. Its a more wear-and-tear style with a shorter lifespan. Look at MLB catchers. Up and down 150 times a game, 162 times a year and your knees are shot by age 30.

Going to be interesting to see how the top 6 looks with Callahan out. Coaching staff definitely gets a thumbs up from me for starting Biron. Save Lundqivst for the Bolts tomorrow (who have a much better offense than the 'Canes) and he should still be rested enough to play against the Bruins on Sunday.

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

I think they're trying to slow the game down so that there are less high-speed collisions, honestly. The difference in officiating between the beginning of the season and now is clear, IMO.

Yeah will probably play 4th line, I think maybe Fedotenko will be taking Callahan's RW spot on the Richards line.

Dubinsky always does seem to show up in games vs the Hurricanes... if not in their GDT's then on the scoreboard.

I'd say watch out for Scott to endear himself to fans tonight but the Canes don't really have any fighters, and we're in Carolina.

This.

And goalies take more stress then catchers.

Go drop to your knees on a yoga mat or something. Hurts right? Goalies drop to their knees hard and fast many times a game (unless they suck ass. if a butterfly goalie isn't dropping down hard and fast he isn't going to be playing for long).

this is another reason why long term contracts for goalies nowadays are a bad idea. Even signing a guy like lundqvist to a 9 - 10 year contract is a bit questionable (though the team will do it if that's what it takes to keep him here). In fact, all contracts that long are questionable just because it is a sport with a high injury rate.

You couldn't be more wrong. Do you even play the position? Let alone ever worn goalie equipment on the ice, with RBK goalie knee pads?

Figured not, if you did, you would realize going down in the butterfly with knee pads + leg pads is actually extremely comfortable and puts little stress on the knees. I know, I've played for semi pro teams for the past 8 years, and been playing goal for the past 15 years total.

Its Lundqvist's butterfly slides/lateral movement in quick succession that could possibly cause potential injury in the future if anything.

He is technically PERFECT in execution, and by far the best positioned/technically sound goaltender in the WORLD.
