Niklas Backstrom

I thought we needed a thread since it might be serious.

Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said it didn't look like a short-term injury for Backstrom. Very unfortunate.

Well, hopefully if its bad enough, the Wild don't try to fool themselves into thinking he can come back later. Just shut him down, get him whatever surgery he may need, and come back healthy to start next season.

Dude is done like his other Finnish teammate. Would have been interesting had we traded Harding at the deadline.

I wish Backs the best in his recovery. At the same time, this may be a good thing. We have to make a decision this summer. Hackett needs to be here next year. This will be Harding's chance to prove if he has anything left in the tank. If he does well, maybe we can get something for him around the draft or we can cut Backs loose. And hopefully Yeo will realize that we're out of the playoffs and will play Hackett a lot! Give the kid some experience.

Never want to hear that I know we rip on Backstrom for his contract but on the other hand, it still hurts.

Don't forget that Koivu is there too. Heck, the whole team will be there come April.

Seto: "I blew out my flip flop skate....tripped on an ice rut....sucked in the shootout, had to fly on back home."

Okay, this could be addicting, but back to the original topic.

Hello Gentlemen

Rangers fan coming in peace.

I have Backstrom on my fantasy team and wondering if you guys think Harding will be the full time starter with Backstrom out.

Thanks in advance

It's hard to say. Harding could end up splitting time evenly with Hackett if they want to get an extended look at how progressed Hackett really is. His 4 appearances so far haven't been enough to make a full judgment so we could see a fair bit of him in net.

I would lean towards a split. Hards will showcase for a new contract but they want to see what Hack can do with the season lost. Also, they may want to keep him fresh for the Aeros playoff run, if they make it.

I want to see Hack get quite a few starts to see what we actually have in the kid. He's looked great in his few appearances so far, but so did Anton Khudobin in his first 2 times in the NHL. I think most of us know there's a difference between the two, but we can't just assume he's going to be great. I'm excited to see what he can do.

I'm seeing all these reports and rumors that Niklas Backstrom injured his knee. Trust me, it's his groin. We'll get an update later #mnwild

The butterfly style for goalies is a good style, but ******* does it result in a lot of groin injuries.

He's not coming back before the end of the season. Get well for next year Backy.

I don't remember anyone posting one, but there wasn't much to see. He went down into the butterfly, kicking out to make a routine save on a shot from the top of the circle and he just rolled over and convulsed in pain until they stopped play. It looked like nothing but obviously did something bad to his leg/groin.

With the news still fresh, Yeo said he hasn't come up with a plan to use the goalies. He said both will get time in net. There aren't a ton of back-to-backs.
Quote:
For those asking, Yeo said there was no plan last night if Harding got hurt. They would have had to put a position player in, and the refs told Yeo they would have given him time to figure it out. In San Jose, goalie coach Bob Mason told me it probably would have been Justin Falk.
