I have been stating this for years. At the end of Game 2 of the SCF Malkin got into a fight with less than 5 minutes left and is given no suspension when the rules clearly state otherwise. Game 3 he has a 4 point night essentially saving them from going down 3-0 to Detroit.
The whole suspension system is a joke. Sometimes love taps are two game suspensions then Staal commits that hit on Coburn and doesn't even receive the full punishment of 5 minutes...
Should of been a 2 minute boarding penalty. I dont think there was any malice on the hit. Didnt think it was intentional then and I still dont. I would of been fine with just the 2 minutes.
Schenn is probably fortunate he got away with the knee on knee as well soon after that.

Last night I watched him throw a few fists at a Stars player (I think Nystrom) when they were shoving each other...and of course no call. I was surprised but I shouldn't have been.

I couldn't believe he didn't get suspended for that last game for starting that fight. Talbot did his usual stirring the pot and then hiding behind his teammates and Malkin then jumps Zetterberg and just starts throwing them while Zetterberg still had his gloves on. It was suppose to be an automatic suspension for the next game for whoever instigated a fight before the end of the game no matter who did it
The hit on Briere was a very dangerous hit though I am fine with no suspension.

Thats completely true but the example I mentioned about Malkin was one that they DID see and assessed him a 5 minute penalty. My issue was with the NHL front office that ignored the very rule that they created by not implementing his minimum 2 game suspension for being given a 5 minute fighting major in the final 5 minutes of a game. It's long gone and dead of an issue and the Pens already go away with it, my point is that I'm not surprised Vlassic wasn't given a suspension because Briere was involved. Players should not be given or not given special treatment because of who they are, that creates the situation we have right now where the punishments are vague and players continue to be hit from awkward positions since there is not clear line as to what is wrong.

Yeah, I agree with this. It should have been a penalty, but not a major and definitely not a suspension.
Briere knew that hit was coming. What he should have done there is dump the puck behind the net to Hartnell and get the cycle going, and absorb the inevitable hit along the boards... Instead, he chose try something fancy: Stop on a dime and spin away from the check while standing six feet away from the boards. When contact was made Briere could not keep his footing. It did not appear to me that Vlasic had intent to injure, he was simply trying to keep Briere from getting in behind the net (where he is most dangerous). To do this he needs to hit him hard enough to either jar the puck loose or knock him down. To be honest watching the footage it doesn't even look like Vlasic hit him "that" hard I think Briere is half falling into the boards as a result poor footing. At worst this is a boarding minor.
Briere put himself in that situation, he put on the brakes 4-5 feet from the boards, instead of doing what he's supposed to (and what Vlasic would expect), which is bracing himself against the boards. I'm not blaming Vlasic at all, though it probably should've been a minor, but that's it.

Sharks fan here, just scoping out the opinion on the Briere hit. How was he not given an Impact test, especially with the history/comments/nature of the hit?
