NHL Players vote Top 50 Players in the game - Carey Price snubbed

http://www.thehockeynews.com/article...yers-4036.html

Top 50 players voted by the players.

I received my issue today, and Carey Price is nowhere to be seen.

He was beat out by the likes of David Krejci, Tuuka Rask, Kris Letang, Marc-Andre Fleury, Milan Lucic, Miikka Kiprusoff, and Vincent Lecavalier.

I know, I know..these kinds of things are pointless.

I was just expecting one of the best goalies in the world to get a bit more love from his peers.

He's not showing that this year.

To be fair, I have no problem with them listing Tukka Rask above Price. Not sure who is the better goalie of the two, but Rask has played amazing in the NHL too.

Letang is one of the best defenseman in the NHL, so I have no problem there either.

The rest though, I have no idea how they are ranked higher than Price.

Fleury always gets a lot of love even though I've never thought he was that great. Clutch maybe, but not an incredible goalie.

Yes, but due to copyright issues I can't post it.

The full list will eventually be posted on THN.com.

How is a backup goalie on this list? (Rask)

I get that he will be fantastic and has brilliant numbers in his 22 starts..but he's still a backup at the moment. How do we know that he won't break down with a heavier workload or a defense like Montreal's?

For those saying Price hasn't been good this year..his numbers are similar to last years on a much worse team..

You can't really question Rask being there. I'm not surprised. .926 career save % and 2.20 GAA at the age of 23 (almost 24) is incredible.

And before anybody asks...there's no Halak on the list either.

Oh I absolutely believe that Rask is and will be an excellent goalie.

I was just surprised to see him listed, while Price was nowhere to be seen.

They showed a SV% number last night on the screen, mainly because Backstrom was 4th on the list, but Price was 6th. I can't remember what period of time that was including though, the last couple of years?

I don't get why anyone would vote for Rask over Price considering Thomas is the reason for the Bruins success the last two seasons.

You can't say a goalie is a number one until he's handled a number one workload. Rask isn't there yet. Thomas and Rask also benefit from playing behind the bruins defense, which limits a lot of shots to the outside and never lets anyone get in close to the crease.

Well, if that's the case, would you call Thomas a #1 because they both share a lot of the minutes? Both of them don't get near the amount GP that Price gets.

I agree with the defense though. That definitely helps. Rask was the Bruins starter in the 09-10 playoffs though.

Another thing with Rask. He is very protected in terms of who he plays against.

This year in his 22 games, he has faced off against a current playoff team just 8 times.

These are the teams he has faced in order of points:
NYR
Detroit
Phoenix
Florida (x2)
Winnipeg (x3)
Los Angeles
Colorado
Washington
Calgary
Buffalo (x2)
Toronto
Carolina (x2)
NYI
Montreal
Edmonton
Columbus (x2)

Excellent goalie and will be a great starter for Boston, but Price is a workhorse with no protection playing behind a much worse team.

I don't know why this had to be a Carey Price thread. It's blatently obvious he should not be on this list.

The issue as a Hab fan is that there isn't a SINGLE HAB on this list. That's how pathetic this franchise has become.

Thomas? Try Claude Julien. Team defense and toughness.

You honestly don't consider Price to be one of the top 50 players in the game?

Hey, if it's your opinion whatever man, but It'd be pretty hard pressed to find 50 players better than Carey Price. Especially considering some of the names on the list.

he is a top 6 Goalie to go for ASG, but not good enough to be in top 50?

I say that I agree with the NHL players.

Quick question: Is Jonathan Quick on the list?

Price may not be a top 50 player in the league, but Krejci, Lucic, Rask and Lecavalier are?

Most hockey players aren't that bright, to be fair.

They also don't have time to sit around watching other teams. They look at the standings, of course anyone on this team is going to have an uphill battle.

For our March 19 issue of The Hockey News, we polled five players from each NHL team for who they thought were the top five players in the league today. Players couldn't vote for teammates. After tabulating the votes, we ended up with a ranking of the top 50 players in the NHL.

So... someone voted for Vincent Lecavalier as a top 5 players in the league? Doubt that. I'm pretty sure they voted because they're buddies more than anything else.
