Proposal Nucks/Leafs

To Toronto
(RW) Todd Bertuzzi @ $5.3million

To Vancouver
(RW/C) Jeff O'Neil @ $1.5million
(D) Brian McCabe @ $3.46million

Toronto gains a (the) dominant power forward. Vancouver picks up a fantastic dman in McCabe and a versatile top forward to fill the gap, plus saves $300k.

The leafs won't trade O'Neill. He came to Toronto at a big discount and also siad that he wouldn't have played anywhere else this year due to the death of his brother. In this way, I'll give him some leeway on his brutally uninterested play this year. It would look really badly on Toronto to deal him now. I also doubt they'd deal McCabe unless they throwing in the towel, which I don't see MLSE doing.

Value wise, the leafs take this deal and run. A UFA and an underperforming winger for Bertuzzi(who hasn't been too hot hismelf this year.) I'df be interested to see what Nucks fans think, but I don't think it will be very positive.

Actually, what Toronto would get would be an unmotivated, lazy big waste of Cap space who plays on the perimeter. Who's best move is the no look drop pass to open ice in the offensive zone. Which results in the inevitable hooking penalty he takes in the defensive zone.

I'm in

I'd do it but I doubt Van would want O'Neill.

The only poblem is Bert would go to T.O. and start dominating again. I just have this feeling. Also i dont feel a player like McCabe is what the Canucks want because we would rather have a Defensive Dman. It is an interesting proposal tho.

Who cares? If the guy is unmotivated and won't play hard for the Canucks, trade him. What good is he to us??

Nothing worse than hanging on to a guy waiting for the potential to break through.

yes ala vince carter...

But trading ONeil would be the worst PR move ever since he came here cause his brother died.

Vancouver would make this trade in a heart-beat.

I think if you switch O'Neill with a young winger, you may have a deal.

Swap out O'neill with Wellwood/Steen/Stajan.

Don't mention any words that rhyme with Shponikarovski or Flantripov though.

That just makes the deal even worse for the Leafs.

I think it's a way better proposal than typical one's on this board. I think that to even the trade out, and avoid O'Neill from having to leave, it would go more along the lines of this:

To Toronto:

Todd Bertuzzi, Steve McCarthy, 2nd round pick

To Vancouver:

Bryan McCabe, Darcy Tucker

Interesting proposal. Value wise its interesting, and the Leafs do need a 1st line winger. But they'd have too be out of the playoff race to trade Mccabe as they SUCK without him, and I dont see Bertuzzi being a player the Canucks deal heading into the playoffs.

I dont think the Leafs will be interested in adding Bertuzzi at that price. Theyll use the available cap space to shore up the D and goaltending first before thinking of the forwards.

I dont think Vancouver and Toronto are good trading partners unless Toronto falls out of the playoff race closer to the deadline. The needs of both teams are fairly similar right now... but if TO falls out, Van could use some defensive depth...Ken Klee for a pick?
