Anze Kopitar has played in 64 games and has 54 points. He has scored more points then most of the players (all but two) JohnJ has listed and even then only 5 less.

Kopitar is a stud scoring machine but I think he should step up his leadership role and presence in order to become an even greater player.

I think that is what Marcel was saying.

IMO Anze needs to start playing with some balls.
But unfortunately nobody can't teach him how to grow them.
I didn't mean that I thought Kopitar IS or can be Malkin (or no one is saying he could be as good as Malkin), but he can learn a hell of a lot from him. Malkin is a big bodied center who is always looking to shoot the puck and drive to the net. He's constantly buzzing, never standing still. Kopitar could take a few moves from Malkin's book. Don't you think that Kopitar could use his body to power to the net much like Malkin does?

i agree. we all know kopitar has the elite skill to take over games, but he just doesn't do it enough. He doesn't take the game by the horns as forcefully as he could. i think he just has so much more than what he's putting on the ice every game. more emotions and passion is what we need from him.

Wow! Refreshing words from Dionne there. I'm inclined to agree with him completely. I hope Kopitar sees this.
Like. Big time.

What is Dionne's problem with Anze? Marcel never has a cross word to say about the Kings with the exception of Kopitar. He goes after Anze all the time. Last year he basically harped on Anze's culture calling him a typical european player (in a derogitory way), and he always goes out of his way to crack him.

I don't know anything about Dionne but I always though he was european.

Kopitar actually ranks 16th in points per game among centers:
http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.h...iewName=points

Kopitar also ranks 3rd overall among centers in average ice time per game:

Not saying he should drop the gloves, just saying that he could use a bit of a mean streak.

Kopitar has more short handed time on ice than any of those players, and has the least productive supporting cast in the NHL.

I've theorized that Kopitar's mid-season collapses could be attributed to his ice time, physical wear and tear, and his defensive duties and on-ice coverage in all three zones. He spends so much time trying to retrieve the puck that by the time he gains possession of it, he's already gassed.

Perhaps this is what Lombardi infers to when he talks about Kopitar and others on the team having to get in better shape. That's the only rational argument I could think of that explains why Kopitar's production starts to take a dip by December. It's been a consistent pattern for Kopitar.

He also shows up to EVERY optional practice/skate through out the season.

Funny, I see five Stanley Cup winners on that list, and two Conn Smythe winners. Yeah, they are really comparable because their stat lines are similar...

Now if you want to compare Kopitar to Thornton, Marleau, Briere and Koivu, sure he is in that group. And that isn't an insult - Anze is a top 15-20 centerman in the league, and that is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

Kopitar had no goals and just one assist in the last five games he played last season. The lone assist came in the game he was hurt, which was also the only game he finished as a plus player.

He's a fine player, but let's at least look at it from a realistic standpoint. He's not elite, but he could be if he applied himself more consistently, which is exactly what Dionne was saying.

Kopitar is a humble guy. I don't think Kopitar ever sets a goal to score 90pts or 40 goals. He needs to start padding his numbers and pronounce to the world that he is the alpha male on the team.

He could just be motivating him because he thinks he can be a better player?
