I always thought it was more of an American thing.
Of course, AV did play his pro hockey in the states, so..
It is an American thing. Kinda like Canadian CFLers and football broadcasters saying "I tell you what" all the bloody time. It's just culture contact, annoying as it may be.
Anyone wonder if we don't win the cup this season with a fairly healthy lineup, does AV still keep his job?
As always, it depends when we get eliminated, how it happens, and who else is available. I don't think Gillis will ever fire him unless there's someone he clearly thinks can do a better job.

Especially guys like Hansen and Lapierre who are an understated part of the team.
The system we play under him is really strong and things we used to get mad at like
"why are we trying to ride out a 1 goal lead!?"
have become the norm as riding out 1 goal leads is now one of the teams greatest strengths, as evidenced by our record when leading into the third period.
Please tell me the majority of people are not in favour of firing this guy. He clearly seems to get the best out of this team and his personality seems almost perfect for this team at this time.

No kidding, he's a fantastic coach who has his team in first place in the NHL for the second year in a row and took us to game 7 of the finals. He's even proven the ability to change styles from defence to offence which is something many coaches can't do. He's fun, he laughs, he is good with the media, he gets results. I don't always agree with his moves but there is honestly not a single guy out there I'd replace him with.
If the Canucks don't win a Stanley Cup this season, I think Vigneault's future is very much in doubt.
Mike Gillis has given Vigneault the team he wants and feels comfortable with, if he doesn't bring home the big prize, it's certainly not a given he'll be back.
As for all the success he's had, it's a fair point. But as strange as this sounds, I feel this team has underachieved in the playoffs under this coach.
Honestly, does anybody feel the Canucks wouldn't have won these division titles under any other good NHL coach?
I don't think we've got any more talent on paper than San Jose yet we consistently do as well or better than them.
Better goaltending and better defense. And it's not consistently, last year was the first year we did better than San Jose.
As for Babcock, that Detroit team is getting pretty old - guys like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom are not the same players anymore. They haven't done a great job replacing them so far. I don't think there's any doubt that Babcock is the better coach, at least in my mind.

As I said, their team is not as good as it once was, so perhaps they're getting exposed on the road where Babcock can't get the defensive match-ups he wants. Why is it relevant?
Would anyone actually trade our current roster for Detroits? I don't think so. Yet they are right behind us in the standings.

It depends. Do you think you can replace Lidstrom with Suter? If so, it's not like Datsyuk or Zetterberg are creeping in on the old age home.
Home Dove Advantage - a system Babcock helped implement at home, but unfortunately it falls on the wayside on the road. "I...prefer...Irish...Spring" -Pavel Datsyuk
