The EhStew Appreciation Thread

Dude is quitely having a pretty good year. He's actually scoring at a faster rate than he he did in his 39pt efford last year.

This Year: 28.2 mins per point
Last Year: 30.3 mins per point

For comparison:

Eric Staal is 25.1 mins per point, Skinner is 25.4 mins per point, Jokinen is 31.8 mins per point

I've put forth the proposal in other Internet venues (and under the duress of much flaming) that Stewart's biggest problem isn't lack of talent but a lack of focus. Without any proof whatsoever I think the guy hovers a fine line between "lol, funny guy who plays hard when he's happy" and "he's not one of the guys that we like."

He's made big strides since his waiver fiasco, I think.

I also think that his recent trial runs on the Staal line tell me that Muller feels like he now has Eh Stew's attention, and is ready to recognize his post-waiver commitment. His effort of late has been noteworthy, and it would sure be great for us if he could get in a groove.

Like so many of our players, it's a matter of pressure. If they feel content with the way they're playing, they're going to take shortcuts, slack off, not put forth the effort needed to win games consistently. A good portion of our Top 6 is guilty of that, and considering Stewart's turnaround since passing waivers, it looks like he was guilty of it as well.

If the Canes, as a team, could put forth the same effort in November/December that they do in Februrary/March, we'd be a consistent playoff team.

That certainly seemed to have a lot to do with it. Perhaps a wakeup call as to where his career is headed if he doesn't have a good strong finish to the season.

Stewart isn't a particularly good player, but he's effective if used in the right situation. As long as he's in his comfort zone, with well-matched linemates and a clearly defined role, he's serviceable enough.

I don't have a lot of appreciation for a guy who has such a huge size advantage and flat out refuses to use it. I just wish he would play pi**ed off once in a while and see how well it worked.

That said, he's scored some goals this year, so if you didn't think he was a replacement for Cole, I can't see how you could be disappointed with his production - given his limited ice time.
