McCabe's value?

I'm just interested what people thought of McCabe's trade value.

Like what kind of draft picks or prospects he could get at the trade deadline.

He would have a ton of value I would think. As a rental he is perfect and his salary isn't even that high right now. He is worth more than Leetch was when Toronto piked him up. It depends on the number of bidders. What is Toronto Packages Kaberle too who is an UFA too. Imagine those 2 going to the same team? Like Atlanta who need defence desperately, Or Carolina, or Vancouver (with Jovo's injury)

Remember it's Bryan McCabe not Rob Blake or Chris Pronger

either a 1st or a 4-top d-man and a 2nd

I think he's overrated by every other team other than Toronto... but his usefulness to Toronto is either underrated OR set even by Toronto bad streak.

Leetch got a 1st, 2nd, Immonen and Kondratiev
Gonchar got a 1st, 2nd, and Morrison

Both were offensive defenseman in the final year of their contracts and McCabe is better Offensively and Defensively now then they were/are. Obviously Things have changed in the salary cap world but at 3.5 mill McCabe is not a huge financial commitment so i would say those 2 deals are a good guide.

I'd say Rob Blake is a perfect comparison. PP specialist that likes to take himself out of defensive position throwing ***-checks. Not to mention he'd be a young Rob Blake.

mcabe will fetch at least what the rangers got for leetch..being an UFA only means he 'll have to be signed at seasons end .but mcabe is going to get between 4-5 million .any team trading for him with cup apirations would gladly try to sign him if he helps bring them a cup or gets them close ..mcabes norris trophy years if he may have one ....are yet to come .the olympics could be a major boost in his confidence .onece u see u can play with planets best .

I think any team that would cough up the assets to trade for McCabe, will be doing it only if they feel they have a good chance at signing him past this year. Therefore, McCabe's trade value really hinges on what type of money he's looking at long-term. If he's willing to sign a two year or longer deal at $4.5-5 million, I think he could fetch a first, a second and a decent roster player. If he indicates that he wants much more than that, then, the number of buyers decrease. He holds value as a rental, but, the value will be less. If someone's only going to have him for the playoff run, I think he can still command a first, maybe a third or fourth and a mediocre prospect.

However, if the Leafs make this deal, they're pretty much surrending on a playoff spot this year. I'm not sure if the Leaf faithful is ready for that yet.

Mcabe is a bit better offencively than those 2 (at the time they were traded) but better Defensively...I don't believe that is true. None of the 3 is a great Defensive Defenceman but Leetch and Gonchar were at least as good Defensively or better than McCabe. Leetch moreso than Gonchar. Leetch was a monster for Toronto after the trade Defensively and Offensively at least IMO, he was by far their best D-Man after the trade even better than Kaberle who is great and underrated. But Leetch is a HOF D-Man. Of Course McCabe is having a monster season... Kudos to the bad-hair guy!
