Phil Kessel

I was wondering what his value is right now. After Burke going out and firing Wilson and hiring Carlyle who has a diff system of play. A lot of people have said that Carlyle likes the dump and chase play with good cycling and grit, i just don't see Kessel playing that type of game lol.. He's way to soft for that, and i don't think he's going to work out really well with that system. So i want to know, what his value is and what other teams will give up for him.. Now, don't come on here and say he's not going anywhere and ect. I just want to know his value and what teams would give up for him. Thanks.

Carlyle coached Teemu. He's not just going to alienate talent...

yes he did, but at least Teemu still did play with some grit. He goes into the boards and cycles and actually isn't scared to get checked.. kessel is probably the softest player in the nhl. And i don't think that is going to work out for him really well with this system.. i could be wrong.

I am sure this will improve Kessel's game over time. Grittyness is the only thing missing from his game, if he starts becoming more of a physical guy, he'll be bringing his skill level a notch higher than it already is.

His body is not supposed to be used for grit. The sooner people relize that the better off everyone will be.

I'd give stafford + Enroth and would add on top of that but as a base you'd get your starter for the next ten years + a top 6 power forward

Sure it is.

I agree with Eamonn that Kessel could go another level with Carylyle. It all depends on whether he is willing to.

The Leafs decline that with zero hesitation, this is an elite goal- scorer and game breaking talent you are talking about, without Pominville or Hodgson in the the conversation, u won't get to even sniff Kessel.

THN list had Kessel as the 16th best player in the league.

All-star.

5th in points, 3rd in goals.

Since 2009 Kessel is tied for 7th in goals....

What's he worth?

Nathan Horton, Rask and Boston's 1st this year.

What's he going to get?

An extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Yes, lets trade the Leaf scoring the most points per game since the '98 season - that's so smart.

I hate these "value" threads.

If Carlyle wants a gritty game, he's come to the wrong team.

He's worth Seguin, Hamilton, and Knight from Boston.
Not two injured players and a late 1st.

He was terrible when he played in a tight defensive system in Boston and scored 36 goals in 70 games.

Exactly, and NO coach can get this Leafs team to play defensively, and make it a grinding team.

YOUR fanbase asked the NHL fanbase what he is worth on a public forum.

I replied with 3 1sts. I told you what he was worth to the Boston Bruins and you laugh at it. That's fine, but what did you expect from other fanbases?

He is not worth Seguin. Never will be. Hamilton and Knight perhaps but as a fan from the Boston Bruins I prefer Tyler Seguin on the team than Phil Kessel thus I wouldn't give him up 1 for 1.

YOUR fanbase asked, I gave my opinion. Others might think about Seguin for Kessel but not me.

Top six winger, 1st and franchise goalie. Horton has Carlyle written all over him.

I also noticed how you cut out what I said he was going to do; sign again in Toronto and continue to try and make the playoffs one of these years.

Exactly. You came to ask a question of the NHL fans of other teams and they come here to whine about what other people responded. At least one of them managed to put up what he thought Kessel was worth to Boston while the other simply used a single word and smiley face as his response which says it all about his thoughts.

I've been hearing this for years. Kessel doesnt have have the intelligence or desire to become a top notch player. He is what he is and teams that aspire for cups wont touch him. top 6, prospect and two #1s is a pipe dream. He doesnt have the value around the league that he does in Toronto.
