April 3, 1980 -- Reggie Leach's (3-0-3) eighth NHL hat trick included his 50th goal and Bobby Clarke (0-4-4) had four assists in the Flyers' 4-2 home win. The Capitals led 2-0 in the first period and held the margin until late in the second period until a momentum-swining fight helped alter the game.
Bob Kelly and Gary Rissling, who both earned 29 PIMs, were involved in a brawl after Kelly took exception to a hard check into the boards by Rissling. Both players were ejected but Rissling gave the choke sign to the entire Flyers' bench as he skated by en route to the dressing room. The Flyers then scored twice in the next 5:11 to tie the game 2-2 aided by a 22-6 shots advantage in the middle period.
Leach's 49th goal gave Philly a 3-2 lead early in the third period followed by his 50th into an empty net. With 6:20 left in regulation time, Jack McIlhargey tried to fight Robert Picard, who refused, but Mike Gartner interceded and wrestled with McIlhargey. Wayne Stephenson made 42 saves for Washington.
The loss, in the Capitals' second-to-last game of the season, severely damaged the team's attempt to secure the franchise's first PO berth as they battled Vancouver and Edmonton for the final two spots; the Canucks and Oilers finished ahead and Edmonton faced the Flyers in the opening round.
FLYERS-CAPITALS 2011-2012:
October 20, 2011 -- Tomas Vokoun made 40 saves and Alex Ovechkin (2-0-2) scored twice to lead the 5-0-0 Capitals 5-2 over the 4-0-1 Flyers in Philadelphia. Ovechkin and Mathieu Perreault (1-1-2) scored in the final 80 seconds of the first period to give Washington a 2-1 lead. The Caps scored three times in the opening five minutes of the third period to take a 5-1 lead. The Flyers held a 42-28 shots advantage. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiW9q6hlUtY
December 13, 2011 -- Ilya Bryzgalov made 31 saves and five different players scored in the Flyers' impressive 5-1 win in Washington. Scott Hartnell scored in his sixth straight game. Defensemen factored in each goal, and Matt Carle had two assists and Marc-Andre Bourdon scored his first NHL goal. Tomas Vokoun (17 saves, 21 shots) was replaced by Michal Neuvirth (11 saves, 12 shots). The Capitals scored with 6:01 to play. The game had 8 PIMs, six to the Flyers. The Flyers road record improved to 11-3-1 and it was the earliest (15 games) the team reached 11 road wins in team history. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11NcEcQ3m0M
March 4, 2012 -- Despite the absences of three top defensemen (Chris Pronger, Kimmo Timonen and Andrej Meszaros), the Flyers recorded a 1-0 shutout at Washington backed by Ilya Bryzgalov's 34 saves and Eric Wellwood's second period goal. Flyers' goaltending coach Jeff Reese said of Bryzgalov's performance "That was his best game as a Flyer." Wellwood was promoted from the AHL the prior day due to an injury to James van Riemsdyk and his goal came less than a minute after Peter Laviolette called a timeout. Scott Hartnell and Troy Brouwer fought ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nl218dynnOU ) after Erik Gustafsson was checked into the bench door. The only other penalty was a minor to the Caps' Jason Chimera. The result was the second straight shutout for Washington. It was the Flyers' first 1-0 win since win December 30, 2007 at Florida.
Let's get a W here. Hopefully, Flyers play the same way as they did last time in DC. Let's piss off Ovie and get right in his grill. Here's to Simmonds keeping up his play of going straight to the net and causing scrums after the whistle. Love that. Quickly has turned into my favorite Flyer and IMO, the hardest working too.
Hmm. I probably should have looked at the schedule ahead of time so I could've gone to this.
There are still a lot of tickets available, reasonably priced online on stubhub. I just bought three tickets last night at the 200 level for $115 each. If you're not already busy, I'm sure you could find something
Hey Miami why did you stop including rivalry histories in your GDT's?
Those were always interesting to read
I continue to use them in full against the Western Conference teams but after 3-to-4 years, the information against some teams in the East was repetitive. At times, I have put a link to the histories shown in prior GDTs in case some want to re-read the information. I'll add it in the OP in this thread to be consistent with some of the established rivalries.

Please take these guys down. Unload and never look back. Expect a great game from Bryz.
Who knows what to expect from them? Bryz has put up a good string of games, but the defense has been as water-tight as a fishnet. And the offense: 7 - 4 - 5 - 0 - 5 - 0 - 6 in their last 7. Bipolar to say the least.
anyone catch that kimmo, coby and mez either missed practice or left early? is this something we should be concerned about? So far no reasons dished out by Paul

Coburn missed the morning skate in Calgary but played that night despite a reference to a possible neck injury. It could be related to the check into the boards by Staal.
It has appeared that Timonen is banged up and perhaps Laviolette has been monitoring his minutes.
Meszaros? Not too sure, could be a maintenance day.
The team has five games in eight days approaching, too.
I was really surprised by the game last night. The caps just rolled over and went through the motions. No push back what so ever! Even the home town annoucers were kind of matter of fact about the team. I mean it was like no one even gave a crap. That being said we need to come out in ill humor and take it to them.

I just have too much crap to do, unfortunately. For whatever reason I thought they played here later in the month.
