I take it back - Tripp said St. Laurent was the ref who made the call. I would have sworn that it was Peel there. Still an awful call. The official penalty is now roughing instead of goaltender interference. What the hell?
Quote:
51.1 Roughing – Roughing is a punching motion with the hand or fist, with or without the glove on the hand, normally directed at the head or face of an opponent.
Roughing is a minor altercation that is not worthy of a major penalty to either participant. (An altercation is a situation involving two players, with at least one to be penalized).
Anybody see anything that was remotely like "a punching motion with the hand or fist?"
That was a terrible call, probably worse than the no-call in OT against the Ducks. Really getting sick of this OT crap. Regulation losses feel a lot better...
And apparently the result was to have Peel screw us over again. thats what you do when you know no one will hold you accountable.
Is he this bad in his other called games, or does he just have a vendetta against us? I'm the farthest thing from a blame the officials guy, as the son of a football referee, but the body of evidence is getting hard to ignore.
That POS Peel has been doing this $*it to the Canes I know since 2000
The dmen were tired too but for whatever reason Staal gave up and the other two were still active. This is why people question the C from time to time and frankly its these little things that lead to the atrocious record in extra time.

After the game he just had, I don't even know how you can complain. The team rode his back hard all night.

You have every right to your opinion but Im willing to give him a break on that one. There's been plenty this season to criticize Staal about but to me this isn't one of them. /my 2 cents

Jokinen said Peel approached again after Sutter penalty in OT. Told Jokinen other ref made call and there was "nothing he could do."
Don't referees and linesmen have conferences to determine the right call to make...like...all the time?
I don't think I've EVER seen a two minute minor penalty "overturned" by the other referee.
Typically, officials will conference about offsides (a mistake puts the faceoff at center ice), puck over glass causing delay of game, and linesmen can call major penalties after whistles...but again, it would be a first for me to see a ref overturn his partner's call.

They also meet if a player is bleeding and no high-sticking penalty was called. Then they'll have a conference, ask if anyone saw anything, and go from there. So they can call penalties after the fact and wipe out penalties after the fact if they determined it to be a wrong call (as with the case of delay of game), but they couldn't do it there?
Though it's conceivable that many of those tickets were sold to people who would rather stay home and watch the big Carolina/Duke showdown. Let's not kid ourselves about which game is more meaningful.
I was at the game. I don't think it was 1/3rd empty, but I could see how it looked that way on TV. The upper deck was very full. The north and south end LL's were also fairly full. But the sides along the blue line (especially behind the benches) had a ton of empty seats. A couple of those sections were very barren. Never seen a game where the seats were filled in that manner.
Someone beside me said that many of those people were up on the deck watching both the Canes and BBall game, but seemed like too many to me. I suspect that many of those STHs chose to exchange tickets and stayed home to watch the BB game.
The little bar outside in the concourse was jammed though with people watching both games on the TV when I walked by.
