C)What kind of return could the Flames get for him?
Somewhere around what Pronger got, but a bit less. Player / solid prospect / 1st round pick would be my asking price.
Meatloaf agrees......

My ideal line up is

FORWARDS
Jarome Iginla ($7.000m) / Mike Cammalleri ($6.000m) / Alex Tanguay ($3.500m)
Curtis Glencross ($2.550m) / Olli Jokinen ($3.500m) / Lee Stempniak ($1.900m)
Sven Baertschi ($1.456m) / Mikael Backlund ($1.300m) / Alexander Semin ($6.300m)
Blake Comeau ($1.250m) / Roman Horak ($0.800m) / Tim Jackman ($0.612m)
Lance Bouma ($0.693m)

DEFENSEMEN
Ryan Suter ($7.000m) / Mark Giordano ($4.020m)
Jay Bouwmeester ($6.680m) / Chris Butler ($1.250m)
Derek Smith ($0.775m) / T.J. Brodie ($0.741m)
Brian Connelly ($0.525m)

GOALTENDERS
Miikka Kiprusoff ($5.833m) / Leland Irving ($0.600m)

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,287,082; BONUSES: $981,250
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $12,918

It puts us right to the limit if this the cap next year, I realize most don't like Semin but he has really found his game and him and Baerschi could be great together.
**** i didnt think he was.. oh well he is next year i think right? but i still dont think weber will be a preds for long

The Flames have a perfect complimentary defender to Bouwmeester in development. Ramage is a another smotth skating blueliner but loves to hit. I think he and Bouwmeester would make an excellent pairing in the very near future. That is if the Flames can convince Ramage it's time to leave school.

I think a team like Philly would be interested in Bouwmeester if Pronger does not return, which could very well be the case. I would think something like this:

To CGY:
VanRiemsdyke
1st 2012

To Philly:
Bouwmeester
Comeau

I also like the idea of signing Stoll, perfect for this team. Not sure if I would resign Jokinen though, I'm undecided. That being said Backlund needs to step up after a pretty bad year, and if the right trade came along I would consider moving him.

I also thinking any big UFA name signing here is a pipe dream, given the current situation why would a player want to sign here.

depends, we didnt really go for the big name signings with sutter, things could change with feaster. Its not hard getting players to stay here but its is hard getting them to sign here.

Personally I would never ask a player to leave College or University to take a shot at the nhl because if they come here don't make it/ get a career ending injure they will not have the scholarship when they go back. I love Ramage's game and think him and Gio could be a great pair.

I like that deal except he would be behind Cammy and Tanguay he unless Cammy continues to play the center like right now. I see he and Glencross producing the same but JVR has a lot more potential. I would only do this if we can sign a D man like Suter caliber.

Ya I know he would be far on the depth chart but I think him and Bartschi would be great on a line with someone like Backlund at center. Its so hard to say what Backlund is going to be like, and if a trade with Bouwmeester went down like that, I would consider moving Backlund and flipping the 1st for a number 1 center. Someone like Stasny. I know our D would be bare and a lot of people wouldn't want to lose J Bo with no one to fill his role, but I really don't think we would miss him that much. Our D lacks a physical presence and their are some UFA D man that can fill that role. J BO has had a decent year but he is just so damn soft and it drives me nuts. Flames should look at some UFA's such as Grossman or Jackman, even RFA's like Fistric and Schenn. These guys are play a physical game which we lack, Brodie, Butler, and Smyth would be a lot better having players like this beside them.

He may have no scholarship, but worst case scenario he makes 50 000+ in the AHL while having a lot of his living expenses paid. That's the financial equivalent of a scholarship, and then some, at most schools.

I say let him play out the remaining two years of his contract then see what you can do. We have lot's of cap space this summer so unless we somehow get Suter or a couple of decent defence men this summer I say lets just ride his contract out. He's a solid player anyway.

My #1 dream move for the Flames this off season would be to find a team that could take Jay Bo off the Flames hands, maybe they need to make the cap floor who knows, and then sign Suter or Weber as a replacement.

Pipe dream, I know. weber is going to command at least 7 million a season and I can see Suter getting at least 5 so I'd prefer Suter due to the cheaper price compared to Bouwmeester and Weber.

You should watch Suter more. He'll get 6.5M to 7.5M easy as a free agent. Weber's already making 7.5M this season - if he ever reached UFA he'd get offers of 8+.

I would move Giordano long before Bouwmeester. Bouw and Suter could make a deadly combination on the ice, they would compliment each other very well.

I think Bouwmeester is that one type of defenseman like Suter who can hold his own easily and at the same time, make other defenseman look even better.

Whether it's Suter or Weber, I'd just drool at the thought of either being paired with JayBo.

and can you imagine them together and Butler being bumped down for a more suitable role and playing alongside Giordano? Then pair up Smith and Brodie and I think we are set. Hopefully Babchuk goes back to the KHL or gets traded and Feaster is able to pull something like this off.

Absolutely there should have been a market for Babchuk even at a low pick. If anything, he'll be gone by next deadline regardless of whatever happens with this team.

I don't think anyone wants Babchuk to be honest. He is seen as a problem child and I think only signed with Calgary this past summer because he had no other offers. He has left for the KHL not once but twice already and is horrid defensively.

In a couple games (how many has he played anyways this season?...), I don't think that's an accurate sample compared to last season where he's been able to put up PP points and play adequate when sheltered.

Babchuk is now what he has always been. Horrid defensively. That's not new to this year, if you are only adequate when you are playing sheltered minutes its because you are horrid defensively. He was bad defensively in Carolina and is bad defensively here.
