we controlled the flow of this game from almost start to finish. we had a couple of terrible shifts where we just couldnt clear the zone (ellerby-strachan pairing was really bad today, constantly getting pinned in our zone), but aside from that, we dictated the play of the game. but the predators, once they get a lead, just clog up everything and make you earn every shot you get. the few times we finally did create something, they have one of the best goalies behind to bail them out.

the only goal we scored was a total breakdown by one of their newcomers (andrei kostistyn). rinne looked absolutely stunned to see wolski there wide open, he was completely out of the play. that likely almost never happens with their system.

it's almost impossible to come back against that team, especially a team starving for offense like ours is. it wasn't a lack of effort, we're just not very good offensively. once the score was 2-0, i had a pretty good sense this one was over. falling behind 2-0 vs carolina and montreal is a whole other story than falling behind 2-0 behind a nashville. montreal and carolina are terrible, nashville is probably one of the best defensive teams in the nhl. we're making a habit of falling behind 2-0 lately (did it vs winnipeg too, obviously) - and it has to stop NOW! this team is NOT built to continuously come from behind. we don't have the offensive talent to pick through teams traps once they get the lead.
Controlling the flow of the game is different from being offensively creative. I don't disagree that an effort was made to get shots, but the chances weren't there. When I say a lack of effort, I really mean a lack of effort to get in front of the net. A lack of effort to win personal battles in the offensive zone. It just looked like they weren't hungry for it. Rinne was incredible, but that has been the excuse of late. When I hear that we've been snakebitten and that we've been facing a lot of hot goaltenders, they seem to me like excuses. Excuses for a lack of offensive ability. Obviously we have been facing hot goalies, it's the NHL! I guess the lack of offense is just something we have to deal with, at least until next season.

Hopefully we get into the playoffs this year and have a somewhat successful first round. At least win a game this time around. And I can't wait for Hubs to come on board!!

Reopened this thread since I just got home from the game and needed to vent.

I haven't read through this thread in it's entirety, so I'm sure someone has asked this question.

If you are facing one of the league's best goaltenders, wouldn't it be a good idea to set screens and crash the net rather than play a perimeter game? Do you really think you are going to beat Rinne with unscreened, weak wrist shots from over 20 feet out?

43 shots is misleading. Most of them were of the variety that a beer league goaltender (or heck, even Scott Clemmensen) could stop.

After their pathetic, shameful display in Winnipeg, I expected more out of them than they showed tonight. If they don't find their cojones sometime before 6PM tomorrow, I'm going to join the Mogo/Soupy pickled liver legion. I would rather be watching from home in a comfortably numb state than sitting at the arena when they throw their playoff slot away.

I called myth busters and they have agreed to break the myth that you can't drive an RV threw Clemmensons five hole

Good effort by the team but the combination of a couple of breakdowns by us and Pekka Rinne being Pekka Rinne left us with a loss tonight.

These are games in hand that we're losing. I applaud the effort but we need better scoring chances. Our PP is sad. We barely move the puck around. I'm also getting tired of Flash getting great chances and not finishing. He scores a couple of goals in the last few and we may have a couple more points in the standings.

All they can do now is move on to tomorrow and somehow pray for a win against a team that has owned our ass for a few years now.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
