Standings, while important, is not my #1 consideration while evaluating playoff teams.

You never want to play the "hottest teams" going into the playoffs.

As of now it would be Pitts, Ottawa, and Tampa in the East.

Every team is tough and no one should be taken lightly. Also, we play close low scoring games so every team we play will be in wvery game!

there is the same amount of point separation between #1 and #2 (10 pts) as there is between #8 and #15 (also 10 pts).

Kinda funny actually.

You are right in my opinion. Playoffs are a brand new season. We can beat any team in the playoffs but forget about the record because many teams can beat us as well. It is who is the hottest and hitting on all cylinders come playoff time.

If this team is as good as most people and the standings make it out to be, they won't need to rely on other teams having key injuries to beat them.

In fact I hope every opponent is as healthy as possible.

Only two teams I ever worry about.

Montreal, and Pittsburgh. Refs always seem to swing their way.

Guess that explains all of the recent Stanley Cups in Montreal.

Lets look back to 1994, shall we?:

There wasnt a single Rangers fan who wasnt nervous about playing the Isles in Round 1. They matched up well against us, they were always a pain in the ass, and a year prior went to the CF after upsetting a 61-win Pens team

22-3. Nuff said.

Next round was the Caps. The Caps beat the Rangers in 1990 and 1991 in the 2nd and 1st round, respectively. They had a scary offense and the best group of PMD's on the league.

That series was over before it started. It was a blowout, really.

The CF were supposed to be a cakewalk -- 6-0 against the Devils that season. No travel. A rookie in goal for them. The entire series was a home game for the Rangers.

Then all of a sudder, Richer became Guy Lafleur, they lose Game 1, and the beginning of 17 heart attacks over two weeks began

Moral of the story -- be careful what you wish for.

Now, It felt so good to eliminate those teams. And it will feel equally as good to do it to any teams this year. You think the players are worried about the Caps?

Word!...we've waited for a team like this in almost 20 years....Bring em all on. If it wasnt meant to be, it'll have been just for this season.

Young team? Lots of guys under contract? Elite goalie in his prime?

**** the rest of the conference.

That being said....I wont cry if the Sens beat Boston in Round 1 and we face Florida in the CF

If the playoffs started today:

NYR
WPG

BOS
OTT

FLA
NJD

PITT
PHI

Imagine this Cup run:

WPG
OTT
FLA
PHX

Bettman would shoot himself.

You just can't take anyone lightly in the playoffs. A goalie gets hot and can carry a team. We play tight playoff style games as a rule, we don't tend to blow teams out, thus I don't see any cakewalks. With the way this team plays and is coached they won't take anyone lightly, it's just not our style. On paper Winnipeg and Florida would seem to be the softest matchups, but they would also require the most travel.

This team has vastly exceeded my expectations this year, we are ahead of schedule IMO. I did not envision this team as a true contender this year and am still skeptical. A first round exit would of course be very disappointing, a trip to the ECF IMO would have to be viewed as a huge success and steppingstone.

Ryan Miller and the rest of the Sabres say hi.... 6-0-2 in their last 8 and Miller is back to his '08 form as of late.

To win the CUP we have to go through the best in this league.
Boston
Pittsburg
Flyers
Detroit
Anything else would not count on hfboards. It will be considered pure luck.

It's because we're NY and everyone hates on us becausE CLEARLY we're the best team so far, legit. mmhmm. But we need to fix some things before we can make a serious playoff run. Offense can't be stagnant one night then score 8 goals the next, on, off etc. And we need to make sure our D is fresh

i've been thinking about this a lot as well. this caps team is definitely not at the same level as they have been, but whos to say they won't get hot at the right time? they have the best talent in the game in ovechkin and a pretty solid overall team. i think the rangers could beat them but i don't have the confidence i would have playing against a different 8 seed. i'd rather see any other team in the east playoff hunt than washington

I'd say it's pretty clear at this point that Malkin >> Ovechkin. I think we can beat the Craps. I also think that while we'd half a tough time beating PIT, we could do it, but it wouldn't be easy.

When everyone is healthy, Crosby > Malkin > Ovechkin.

Crosby and Malkin are pretty close, though.

some of these posts make me laugh, but this team is in it for the Stanley Cup... That means we would have to beat out the best teams to win it all. I could care less about any seeding besides #1 which is where I expect this team to be. Do you really think this team cares who they see in the playoffs? No, just go out there and beat them.

My god did Richer play like freaking Lafleur that series. That Devils team wanted to be the number 1 team in the tri-state area.

Malkin is better because Crosby is always hurt. Even when he doesn't get a concussion he always has an injury.

All these people saying "We don't have to worry about anyone! We're the best, blah blah blah!" are clearly delusional. Being in first place does not make you the best. It just means we've found ways to win games. I honestly think that Detroit and Pitts could be better teams than us, but I'm just hoping we'll find ways to beat these teams on the ice (if we have to see them). Our playoff run is pretty much guaranteed to be a long, grueling process for us. I have faith that we can tough it out, but I can't say I'm not a little worried about some match-ups.

I'm pulling for the Sabres to sneak into 8th place and face the Rangers, because I live in Buffalo now and I could never afford playoff tickets at the Garden when I lived downstate.
