Something I found interesting. Some of the posters in the 2008 redraft thread on the Prospects board are giving Henrique some love, saying he would be a first rounder they re-did the draft today. Pretty cool to see that some people have noticed his emergence.
We would be screwed without him. He's a significant points contributor, and I don't think Josefson or anyone else we have could carry the team the way he has.
I could easily argue AH (going along with the re-do the 2008 draft theme) is a top-10 pick..
I don't know about top 10 yet. Maybe if this rookie year is a sign of consistent production for him. But I would agree that he's probably in the top 20 players out of that draft already.
We don't want to create too much hype. He's just played half a season after all but there are reasons for excitement though, considering what he's done in those 40 games or so.
The race between him and RNH will interesting, both very different but excellent players with a great future.
Henrique better win the Calder. If Landeskog gets it over him I'll be so pissed.
Why? There are still games remaining. If Landeskog passes him in the scoring race he should win it, no doubt.
Landeskog has a bigger role on his team than Henrique has right now and Landeskog is one of the leaders in Denver at the age of 19. It's safe to say he's a pretty darn good candidate for the Calder.
But I hope Henrique can beat them all out for the win.
Very nice bounce back game for Henrique last night. That game in Boston might've been his worst so far, so to come back and pick up 2 points and play as well as he did was great to see.
If he's going to win the Calder, he has to play a bit better. He's gone 7 games without a goal. He still has 5 points in that time, which is fine. But with Landeskog coming on strong and RNH's return soon, the competition is only going to get more difficult.

While I know it won't be a consideration, I think there should be perspective here among the voters. The Devils are competing for a playoff spot. Every game is tight and other teams show up ready to play. Colorado and Edmonton, well the pressure is off there. They can just go for it, let the offense run wild; and they are more prone to have opponents take them lightly. As I've mentioned before, I don't understand or agree with the notion that it's easier to put up points on a good team. In fact, IMO, it's often harder for reasons mentioned above.

I would hope that the voters look at things like this. Especially considering the teams that Henrique will be going up against for the rest of the season. Its a very tough schedule. However, I think that all they look at are stats. It comes down to goals, assists, and +/-. If the voters recognize the circumstances around those stats, then great. He has an excellent chance. But if not, it might be tough.

Landeskog, IMO, is just as worthy as Henrique. Great scoring numbers, leads his team in hits, 2nd on his team in takeaways (so is Henrique). Not to mention he's a +21, with Ryan Wilson the closest at +8.
At this point I think it has to be one of Henrique or Landeskog. If Landy continues his current scoring pace he could very well win it.
Ultimately, do we really want another Calder winning center? Our last one didn't turn out so good.
