STL wins again. They just won't lose. Hopefully Chicago can find a way this week, because STL also has two with Columbus this week.

Yep, It will be hard to catch St Louis in the standings...they've got one of the easiest end of the year schedules.

Detroit also has a fairly easier schedule...but we do play Detroit...so we have some chance of catching them..however we will need some outside help in either scenario.

even though we are what, 4-0-1 against them? and we have picked up three key pieces since we played them last?

all this talk of the Blues being a playoff juggernaut just chaps my arse.... they have zero playoff game wins in almost a decade. Most of their players will be playing their first playoff series. We have a better, more experienced goalie, and we are a better scoring team.

I do not fear the Blues in the playoffs... respect them, sure... but I think we can handle them.

I don't know why people get so up in arms about first-round-matchups anyhow. It's pretty rare that the good teams get bounced in the first round, so you have to go through them eventually anyhow.

problem is, in the west for sure, everything but the 1-8 matchup will likely feature two "good" teams..

I mean, its very possible that the 2-7 will be detroit-san jose... or if san jose wins the pacific the 3-6 could be san jose-chicago...

the biggest concern to me is both of our likely match ups are almost unbeatable at home... and unless we really kick it in, we won't have home ice advantage.

all that said, i still like our chances against the Blues

True but two of the top 5-6 teams in the league will be facing each other in the first round.

If you are in implying that our 1st rd match up will be easy, I strongly disagree. We are 5th in the WC, and may not even have home ice.

Even if we were 1v8 or 2v7 matchup, the NHL playoffs are known for it's parity, more so that any sport. Upsets are common.

I believe this is a year that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the league needs to go to 1 v 16, 2 v 15 , etc

Top 8 from the East and top 8 from the West or top 16 total where 10 could be from the West and 6 could be from the East?

Just for fun I looked both of them up.

With 8 teams from each conference

1 Vancouver vs 16 Winnipeg
2 New York vs 15 Florida
3 Detroit vs 14 Dallas
4 St. Louis vs 13 San Jose
5 Nashville vs 12 Phoenix
6 Pittsburgh vs 11 Ottawa
7 Boston vs 10 Chicago
8 Philadelphia vs 9 New Jersey

With the top 16 total conferences don't matter

Same as above just replace Winnipeg with Los Angeles.

What they really need to do and I can't believe I'm saying this, do it like the NBA does it. If you win your division you shouldn't be guaranteed a top 3 seed and home ice in the 1st round. One of San Jose or Phoenix is going to get the 3 seed and home ice while being possibly the 6th best team in the conference. One of Florida, Winnipeg and Washington is going to get the 3 seed while likely being the 8th best team in your conference.

You won your division, that's great. All that should guarantee you is a spot in the playoffs, not home ice and a top 3 seed.

In the NBA right now Indiana is in 2nd place in the Central, 5.5 games behind Chicago but they get the 3rd seed because they have the 3rd best record. Dallas was the 3rd seed last year even though they finished behind San Antonio in their division and that helped them a lot because they got home court advantage in the WCF ahead of Oklahoma City even though Oklahoma City won their division while Dallas didn't.

Even so, I'd rather play the Blues in the 2nd round which matters more to us. Either way, should be interesting to see how it all plays out at the end of the year. If we go on a 10 game win streak then we could even be in 2nd or more.

I really think the Blues are the best matchup for us if we finish #5. I'd love Phoenix or San Jose too.

Hell of a game in New York. 4-3 Rangers so far. Fights, goals, saves, it's got it all.

I kinda want Phoenix to continue to win, as well as anaheim. the thought of SJ missing the playoffs excites me, as well as a Van-Ana 1st round matchup.

Anaheim is running out of games. they are gonna have to go something like 13-3 just to get to 92 pts

but yes to San Jose missing...

Dallas could end up in the division lead with a Phoenix regulation loss to Pitt.

So, Winnipeg is a measly 11-17-4 on the road.
And 4 out of their last 5 games are on the road, if it's still close with a few games to go, they may not make it in...

I think this time of year those stats are a bit misleading. 2 weeks ago st. louis couldn't win on the road and detroit couldn't lose at home. look at them now
