I would be against drafting Galchenyuk if we end up with a top 3 pick. I think it's just too risky to draft a young hockey player who had an injury that made him miss the whole season. It's bad for the development of a young hockey player.
I would take a chance on Grigorenko. Maybe his attitude problems are overblown and he compares more to Malkin than Ovechkin attitude-wise.
He also looks already ready to step in the NHL physically and maybe he could grow up to 6' 4".
I agree with you that Grigorenko attitude problem are way overrated. Him, Galchenyuk and Faksa would solve #1 center with size problem at center, so i would be real happy.
But if when we are drafting, the best prospect available by far is something else then a center then we should draft that player. Let say Columbus passes on Yakupov, then we should draft Yakupov.
Really thinking Ryan Murray might be the best pick for us this year.

Still pretty certain it will end up being Galchenyuk as our selection. McKenzie mentioned that some scouts have "marveled" at how dedicated he was to come back from his ACL injury. Although he has not been playing, that demonstrates that he has a great work ethic off the ice as well.
Isn't the whole question with Grigorenko is how his game translates to the NHL level and that is something that doesn't concern Roy.
How do you know Roy isn't concerned about Grigorenko adapting to the NHL? Even if he thought he has 50% chance of being a bust, he would be an idiot to say it out loud before the draft.
There are a lot of people on here who do a lot of typing but not much thinking. Roy has 5 great reasons to only say good stuff about Grigorenko before the draft. Not only is he the coach and wants a happy player, but he is GM and wants more high end Russians to come, he is also the owner so he wants butts in the seats with those current and future high end players.

I haven't heard any knocks on Grigorenko attitude wise...the knocks on him are that he is a perimiter player and doesn't always show up and compete. Lots of young players don't show up each night, but Yakupov is one that does, that's why he is rated higher even 3 inches smaller and similar skill level.
Thing is that it is very difficult to change a persons character. Grigorenko has been motivated this year by Roy to "catch" Yakupov in the race for #1 overall. We dont know his character at all and the fact that he has worked very hard to learn english is a good sign. Timmins usually likes hard workers, with the exception of David Fischer.

I have a hypothesis: this year of getting injured could actually have an upside to Galchenyuk, depending on how he's used it.
One of the biggest challenges that faces kids trying to make the jump to the NHL is being physically ready to face off against men.
I'd be willing to bet that, if this report is true, and it's a McKenzie report so it likely is, it's probably based on him busting his ass in the gym. He's likely much stronger now than he would have been after playing the ridiculous pro-level OHL schedule with the 3 games in a row and so on.
However, no reports have come out re: Galchenyuk being cleared for contact just yet. So we'll have to wait and see.
