Your Offseason

Hey sharks fans, I was just wondering, if the sharks either miss the playoffs, or have another early exit from the playoffs, do you think they might blow it up? Or atleast possibly trading one of marleau, Thornton, or Pavelski. What package would you guys even want?

ps. I do hope you make the playoffs, I'm a closet Sharkss fan

fire the coaching staff would be likely.

I doubt the Sharks would try to move a core piece besides Clowe

I could absolutely see them ridding of Clowe, Demers, and possibly Pavelski.

As much as I love Pavs, we have a player "like" him in Couture.

We need some speed and grit in our top 6.

We also need another top 4 shutdown D man.

The last time we had an early exit, Jason Blake was the Leaf's leading scorer and Toskala was letting in 200ft goals. So, in other words, it's been awhile. (sorry, I get testy about the blanket playoff statements).

As for getting Thornton or Marleau, it just won't happen. Shipping out Pavelski is a long, longshot, too. As others have said, Clowe and/or Demers will be top of the tradebait pile for more speed and Murray might be gone depending on if we sign Stuart as speculated. That's probably about it outside of a little bit of bottom-6 tweaking regardless of what happens in the next couple months.

If no playoffs or first round exit, DW will go on KNBR and say "Sometimes, the class needs a new teacher." And fire TMac and the rest of the coaching staff. DW will be spared though.

I agree with two of the three you mention. I don't agree with Pavs. Couture is like him but not at his level. Pavs takes on top competition and takes top PK shifts. Couture isn't able to handle those matchups yet.

To add to your list, I can see them moving Danny Boyle if things end badly. It would be a good excuse to get a change, to dump salary in preparation for a potential labor stoppage, and start looking towards the future since Boyle is getting on in age.

If Clowe doesn't have an absolute monster playoff, he's gone. Luckily, he's done very well save for the conference finals. They may end up moving Douglas Murray especially if Brad Stuart returns.

I'd guess that Clowe and Demers would be on their way out. If the Sharks didn't pick up Nash, I would guess Staurt would be here.

Unless they got to a point of not having to use a forward on the point in the pp, Pavelski isn't expendable

As he should be. Unless you're telling me the next GM the sharks hire will be even more successful and bring a cup to the shark tank, then I'm leery of letting go of DW.

A GM's job is to assemble talent, via draft, free agency and other means... DW is one of the best imo.

1. Fire most of the coaching staff
2. Hire competent coaching staff
3. Resign the good players
4. Improve Worcester's roster (cuz Sharks should win somewhere and if not in SJ then it should be the baby sharks)

I don't think they will move Boyle just yet. And moving Demers, Boyle, and Murray all at once would be a disaster. The new blue line would take way too much time to get in sync

I doubt all three would be moved but I can see two of them being turned over. I'm almost certain that Douglas Murray is going to be dealt this off-season either way.

Now to respond directly to the posters question... I'm not sure Toronto and San Jose would make good trading partners.

If the Sharks miss the playoffs why would he want to come here? The Preds will offer him a deal. Detriot would offer him a contract too.

We don't make the playoffs we'll have to change the coaching staff, maybe do some roster tweeking.

There will be a lot of teams that will be interested in Douglas Murray's services so they should get very good value for him. I only suggest it because of Brad Stuart's desire to sign in San Jose. While Stuart plays on the right side, it seems to me that it's better to move Murray out to make room rather than Demers or Braun.

Ok that settles it then... So I hate to answer a question with a question, but to the poster if the Sharks offered Murray what do you think would be an even trade on the leafs roster? Personally I'd take a second and a fourth. I can't really think of a better trade with the Leafs.

Keep in mind the Sharks would be looking for a replacement for Ryan Clowe and some quality bottom six forwards.

Any chance Niemi would be traded?

Only if we get another NHL goalie. Can't see Greiss being a starter, at least not now.

I don't think so, but there is a small chance that the Sharks pick up Nabokov. So if that happens and he just straight up steals the job from Niemi he may be available at the deadline if anyone actually wanted him.

I think the Sharks will pick up a goalie. Someone who they would be comfortable with taking over for extended periods of time. I think Greiss played his way out of the coaching staffs confidence. I don't think the organization would be comfortable seeing Niemi as a workhorse.

If we DONT make the playoffs:

- Change in coaching staff
- Trade Clowe
- Trade Demers

If we make the playoffs and exit early (most likely scenario):

- Change the coaching staff
- Trade Clowe

As far as getting Suter goes, I think the Preds resign him. They are more likely to get rid of Weber than Suter. After the whole arbitration thing I feel that Weber is a goner.

Also, only way I trade Boyle is if we do get Suter or Weber somehow. Not likely to happen.

I don't see why they wouldn't entertain the idea. Goaltending is more or less easy to replace. If they can get significant value, they can go out and sign someone cheap to platoon with Greiss.
