Jimmy Howard - Groin(?)

Quote:
Howard, who might have tweaked his groin, said he doesn't think his injury is serious. He will have an MRI on Monday.

“It's day-to-day,'' Howard said. “Throughout the period it was just getting tighter and tighter, so they decided to take me out. Hopefully, I can bounce back quick.''
*sigh*

Hopefully it's not too serious....

Not worried about it. When he was out for a few games with the finger injury he came back and didn't look rusty at all. Obviously we need to have him consistently healthy for the playoffs, but if he misses the 3 games this week it isn't too terrible.

Is Howard feeling the effects of being overused for the first 5 months? Or are these injuries unrelated? We'll never know. What I do know, is that aside from Fuhr, Roy, Brodeur, and more recently Fleury...other goalies who play 60+ games run out of steam or get hurt when it matters. See Miller, Kiprusoff, Lundquist, Bryzgalov for recent examples. Luongo had been in that camp until Schneider came along and finally gave the guy some relief last year. He responded by carrying the Canucks to the Finals. Some fans think a back-up is a meaningless job. I disagree. You need a guy that can start 20-30 games without forfeiting them. And Holland picked Conklin for that task

Anytime you hear a groin injury and goalie it is not good news. This might be minor but goalies have a hard time shaking these problems.

My hope is they are being overly proactive in dealing with the groin. If he has serious groin problems we are going to be in a world of hurt. I am not overly worried about our playoff seeding, my biggest concern is the ability to ice the absolute best squad come playoff time.

Those were two different sentences! They could be though; player says not too serious, team says mri

I have a feeling that in this case it was the time off that may have caused the tweek rather than him being overused.

Once a goalie has a rythm going he can pretty much keep that going but the time off caused Jimmy's routine to change and could be the cause of the possible injury

Im going to assume the MRI is purely just for precaution. Make sure it isn't something worse. Like when the remove a mole. It probably isn't cancer but they still check. Rather be safe and catch it early then lazy and make it worse

They call-up Conks? Boston might pick him up on re-entry waviers if Det does call him up.

No, they recalled Jordan Pearce.
