At best we are a pretty good team. At worst we're just a solid team.

I think you many of you guys are reading too much into this. The offense is going through something of a slump at the moment. In multiple games we've given up the first goal then gotten totally shut-down. That will happen when your offense isn't breaking through the blue-line cleanly, in part because the other team is playing great defense.

If the team can't turn the offense around, no, we won't be going anywhere. But I can't see that happening. The team has too much offensive talent and depth for us to just crash and burn now. If Kovalchuk gets hot again, as he is want to do, the offense he produces alone will carry us.

Teams win in the playoffs if they play their best hockey at the right time. Right now we're not playing our best hockey, but that doesn't mean we've lost the ability to play better.

I'll start worrying only if it looks like we're falling out of 6th.

I love you CD. I agree with everything you said to a T.

But we're only in 6th by one point.

I mean if Ottawa has gone up 4 points on us and Winnipeg/Buffalo/Washington/Tampa Bay/Etc. are closing. Then I'll worry. But we're not there yet.

we have 2 games in hand over Ottawa - that's 5 pts to spoil before they are ahead of us

Just make the playoffs, Devils. Everything else will be gravy. (assuming they don't get the Rangers in the first round...)

I think there is a really good chance Tampa Bay, or Buffalo will get hot. Not both, but one. Winnipeg I see them dropping out. Tampa Bay could get hot, and take the Southeast, but Florida would have to go on a huge collapse, and fall out.

I expected the Devils to lose one this week to the Islanders, but I figured we would win Sunday, and then the Isles can review what went wrong, and take one of the games later in the week since they have us 3 in a row. We have the Rangers in between though so they can focus on us.

Yesterday they gave us a win by putting in that guy. Nabokov has been playing real good lately, and I was dreading him. Nabokov has actually shut out the Flyers this year, so I would expect this more from him. They gotta wake up. Can't afford to lose many more games they just can't. I would be happy with winning one of the last two with the Rangers, one of the last two with the Flyers, one of the last two with the Penguins, Tampa Bay, Toronto, two of the last 3 with the Isles, Colorado, and Chicago who sucks on the road. One of the two remaining with Ottawa. It's all we need.

Somehow I think we'll blow some of those though, and probably make the Isles look like a playoff team, and same with Toronto, and Tampa Bay.

Hope we don't blow it against the NHL Mets like we did in November on their ice when they blew us out 6-1.

Agree with all of this. One thing we have not had yet this year was both Elias line and the Parise/Kovy line slumping at the same time. Right now both are.

Nah. But I would be fine with a gas guzzling grandmawagon if need be. I just want to see old people with wheels.

Eh you're right about that. This is probably the biggest slump this team has been in all season I think which is funny cause it's coming off their by far best run of the season. We had mini slumps in late October, and the one late November into early December, but we came back, and turned it around. We have consistently been in the top 8 since mid December I'm pretty sure. I think we went to 9th for a night after losing to the Rangers that time, and then we were tied for 8th going into the All Star break.

well said, hopefully yesterdays debacle serves as a wakeup call b/c efforts like that are unacceptable this time of year. the stretch run is here and its time to get healthy, pick up W's to stay in a comfortable playoff position, and get rolling. it'd be nice to start that tomorrow night.
