Dont count your chickens. It's been a few games and he's been just as advertised: a mid-range puck mover with some costly defensive lapses.
Nothing matters til' playoff time anyways. This team thought they could coast in from midseason. Now they're going to have to work a little bit harder before that last week of the push.
He is what he has always been. It helps a bit and we still paid at least double what it should have cost. Save the told ya sos for when he's playing over his head for an extended period of time (rest of season and playoffs).
Yes it is, when a large portion of goals scored against the Hawks are scored because other teams forwards always have position in front of the Hawks net it is a need. That need will become even more evident in the play-offs when the games become more chippy and physical.

Hawks are going to get mashed in the POs. I wish it wasn't true but I don't see how they avoid it.

The problem with big physical defensmen is that most of the time they won't have the skating nor the passing ability to stay with the Hawks style of play. Basically, they'll be a slightly better version of O'Donnell.
I think SB overpaid for Oduya, but that was the price. The move is helping the Hawks greatly considering our #3/4 and #5 defensemen are out with injury.

The Hawks can sacrifice one puck moving good skating D man for the physical type guy they need. People forget Nick Boynton played a big role in the play-offs for the Cup winning team and he wasn't fast or a great passer. He was a 220 pound stay at home D man who knew his role and filled it well.
A big stay at home defenseman clears the crease and helps when the puck is in your zone. A swift puck moving defenseman beats the forcheck with quickness and moves the puck out quickly. Depending on the system, both types can reduce the number of shots against if they are effective. I think that with the way the game is being played now the trend is more to the quick guys. If the puck isn't in your end much you aren't being scored on.
Well I guess this Oduya move really was pointless. He's no better than what he had on D already and won't help us win. Terrible move by Stan, paid way too much for him.

66 Games Oduya has 3 goals for the season
66 Games Keith has 4 goals and a 2% accuracy of hitting bullseye on shots.
Makes sense why Oduya should not get a 4 million a year deal.
I don't care if we resign Oduya or his lack of offense.
The guy fits in on this roster. Obviously we can't overpay. We have 2 #2 defenseman this year in Keith and Seabrook. I more concerned with Keith having 4G's through 66 games. I'm not expecting a Norris year, but 4G's is something I expect from Montador not Keith.
He's done well so far. They better re-sign him after what they gave up for him, though. Regardless of how he plays - if he walks after giving all this up, Stan looks terrible.
