Saw Turco play a few games at the Euro Champions League playoffs during the christmas holidays. He looked good there and if I recall was pretty sharp in the shootouts. How that translates to NHL is another question however, but how many games will he start?
How is Boston's goaltending depth beyond Rask?

their injured third string apparently has anger issues and is very average, but still young with good upside

OK, thanks.
They seem pretty thin behind Thomas at the moment.

Yup but Boston has also been playing real bad lately and the Leafs need to win if they hope to make the playoffs. They will get Carlyle's 1st home win tonight

Pretty good night in general, if we lose tonight with points being picked up by other teams we should be in great position

I don't see us catching Toronto so I'm pulling for Boston. Want to see that blowhard Burke have to explain why after 3 years he can't even get a team in the playoffs.

Grabovski signs for $5.5 a year for 5 years, a bit much for a second line guy who hasn't hit 60 points before.

Grabo's new contract is 5 years X 5.5million per.

Makes Plekanec's contract look decent.

It makes Plekanec's look like an outright steal.

Plekanec is AT least equal offensively and miles ahead defensively.

Grabovski got market value. It might seem overpaid, but this is his worth. He has comparable players making similar dollar. Also I would expect salaries to rise as the cap rises.

I think it's a fair deal. Ideally you'd want everyone to be paid 1 million or less, but it doesn't worth that way.

He could've made 5.5m as a UFA this summer, but I would've thought Toronto would get the discount to 5m a year. Seems a little much if you compare it to Plekanec and Kesler.

Toronto doesn't have the luxury of letting Grabovski go, they have no other center to fall back on.

Plekanec and Kesler signed their deals what 2 years before Grabovski? Salaries rise as time goes on. Grabovski has comparables point-wise on his side and while he doesn't have the defensive game, the fact they he put up points is argument enough for that worth.

This should be no surprise, time and time again players are paid(exceptions are rare) for the amount of points they put up. Grabovski got about market value. Add that to the fact that Toronto has no offensive center depth(you could argue Connolly and Bozak I guess), they had to give him his worth.

I prefer Plekanec over Grabovski any day! But both are too small to be top line centres in this NHL and paying more than $5,000,000.00 a year for a 2nd/3rd line centre is too much.

In Montreal the depth I want to see at centre going forward is:

Grigorenko/Galchenyuk
Plekanec/Desharnais
Eller
Leblanc
White

* So trade either Plekanec or Desharnais this summer

No !

How in hell - if we ever draft any of these two - will they be able to replace Plekanec or DD ?

I understand now... You want Mckinnon in 2013 ?

Grabovski is so underrated here, it's criminal. He has the third highest P/60 on his team at ES (only .2 under Lupul) while his line is playing the toughest matchup on every night*. He's played most of the year with a guy that can't score 10 goals with top 6 ice-time this season.

Once again, Plekanec is a great PKer, but his defensive ability is so overrated. He's a great defensive player, but there's tons of top 2 line players that play the toughest matchups and do well.

If that guy had just a little bit of a bad attitude, he would have never nailed that contract.

Either Burke overpaid as usual, or the habs mishandled his case baadly.

While I think Grabo managed to play well enough this year toland a great contract, I do think it is overpayment and a question mark when you about what he really brings on the table. Has never played a playoff game, plays an important part, but in a mediocre team. What role would he have for a team that is a contender? His worth is hard to value, and Burke took the easy way to keep him.

So by your definition Giroux Crosby Datsyuk Krejci Tavares Stamkos are too small to be #1 centers.

So there are 5-6 "true #1 centers" and 30 teams...that doesn't compute.

I still don't get this obsession with #1 centers having to be 6'2". Skating vision and hockey sense would be well ahead of size on my chart.

The thread on the main board was closed, Jets fans chanting "silver medal" at Ryan Miller during their game against Buffalo.

I'm not a big Burke fan, but he made a good choice in keeping Grabovski. He is their best centerman.

He may seem overpaid, but he earned that contract. The leafs don't have any other center to fall back on and they need to make the playoffs soon. Walking away from Grabovski doesn't help that goal.

Find it pretty funny how you say Grabo is underrated, but then say Plek is overrated.
Care to tell us who Plekanec has played with this year? Who's he with now? Geoffrion and White?
Grabo is good player, but Plek is a lot more than just a defensive forward.

I choose Plek over Grabo any day of the week. Not even a question.
