The accurate is the 82 PIMs in 28 games only a few of which were fighting majors. Helped this team win, like when he got injured and the Hawks where up 2 and dominating the Oilers, he takes the penalty, gives the Oilers tons of PP time and fires the Oilers up who come back and win the game, what a huge help. No team needs a guy who averages almost 4 PIM a game.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with the numbers he (Carcillo) put up for us before he hurt himself. I mean besides the average number of penalty minutes, he was on pace for at least 22 points. Which was probably more than anyone expected....Sure, he needs to cool down and play smarter, but I truly believe he goes out there and throws his body around because he has something to prove being on this team. On the flip side though, we now have JHayes who my Dad has renamed "Byfuglien with a brain". But the more I think about it the more I think he is right, I mean he's big, he wins board battles, he scores those hard work goals in front of the net, and takes some pressure off of top guys with big hits. If anything JHayes is our "grit" type of player that Bowman was looking for...

Carcillo was a +10
Carcillo scored every now and then
Carcillo is a 4th liner who adds some grit and other teams hate
Carcillo was 2nd in Hits until he had that bad luck

this all for less than 1 million out of a 4th Liner. Not bad if you ask me.

Agreed. If he wanted to come back for the same kind of price, barring some other better option within the system or within free agency, I'd be fine with him coming back.

Carcillo was a solid fit on this team because unlike many 4th line grinder he can skate really well and he can fit in the top 6 if need for a physical presence. Does he take some bad penalties...sure he does but in my opinion the good outweighs the bad with him.

I think if we could sign a top 6 wing to play with Kane and Hossa and then resign Carcillo and Mayer while acquiring a Burish type player we would be better off than over paying a 2C. A 4th line of Carcillo-Burish-Mayers could be pretty darn effective. Just my thoughts.

Staberg - Toews - Sharp
???? - Kane - Hossa
Shaw - Bolland - Kruger
Carcillo - Burish - Mayer

I have pushed for Semin but if we have the room we could make a run a Parise or we could offer sheet a RFA (Duchene, E. Kane, TJ Oshie). While some of these ideas are a bit farfetched they could work. Our cap room will enable Bowman to be aggresive and creative so lets hope he can be both.

Carcillo should be re-signed. I said for a while ago that Shaw filled Carcillo's role quite nicely. If he could keep it up all season, which he could not, Carcillo should be brought back and fight it out during training camp. Very similar style of players.

I don't see any reason why Carcillo wouldn't be back, cheap useful player that fills a need.

Our best hope is either McNeill, Kruger or Pirri coming in much improved or Kane. I can't see Bowman doing what it takes trade wise and that's even if someone was available.

Or they could always go back to what worked and put Sharp at #2 C

I agree that they could do that but I think having Sharp-Toews and Kane-Hossa creates better balance on our lines.

Yep. Carcillo doesn't do the team any good when he's suspended.

Do you happen to know what he was making in Philly? Does anyone know, for that matter? You wouldn't figure he'd balk at coming back for the same salary he's getting this year but is there anyone out there that might throw more at him? Or more years assuming the Hawks would offer a one-year deal again? If Adam Burish can be offered over $1 million per season...

Not saying anyone will throw that kind of a deal at him, just curious what his salaries have been elsewhere because I know I was at least a little surprised they were able to get him to sign a one-year deal at that salary. Maybe I just really suck at salary evaluation. Entirely possible.

I can see him coming back for cheap, especially after having a major injury this year.

Thanks, appreciate that. About what I thought it was, though I didn't know he ever hit or crept over the $1 million mark.

Carcillo had 16 minor penalties and I believe 1 non-fighting major. A game misconduct, one misconduct, and 5 fights really inflate overall penalty minute numbers.

Carcillo should stay as his final play this year and subsequent injury will probably scare other teams away from offering much money and/or long term.

I'd give him 2 years, 1.2M (maybe even 1.5 considering the market) per if he'd take it. A full season with the Hawks and Q would really boost his value. Treat him like Kopecky when we got him from Detroit and give him 2 years.

The biggest problem with having Carcillo on this team is not necessarily the way he plays, but more of how he gets calls against that are based on his reputation. We saw borderline calls too often and it is too bad the refs are that inept. Even the suspension hit was not nearly the big deal it was made out to be.

What would be interesting would be to compare our record before he went down to after. There’s no question in my mind that he has been missed. Shaw tried his best to fill the void in his absence but he’s just too small. I think we will see Carcillo back at training camp and he will earn a spot on next years squad.

hasn't Carcillo drawn more penaltys than he got himself?

Would honestly rather sign Burish than re-sign Carcillo, all things considered.

I wouldn't mind it but I think Shaw and Hayes have earned roles on this team. And lest we forget about the great Ben Smith, who may be knocking on the door for a spot too.

We just don't have room for both Burish and Carcillo if Mayers is brought back (which I definitely think he will) and Burish is the better choice, IMO.

we need a #13 Forward and Carcillo would be a fit.
We will have guys out for some time and Bruno won't be back. I don't think Frolik will be back too

Shaw will start in the AHL next year imo. I think we're looking at:

Sharp-Toews-Kane
Saad-Kruger-Hossa
Stalberg-Bolland-Jayes
Carcillo-Mayers-Burish
Bollig

Morin might even make the team as well, never know.
