The night Wayne Messmer was tricked into singing the wrong anthem
Wayne wanted to sing part of O Canada in French and contacted the Nordiques. Well these lyrics were 'unofficial' but many in Quebec demanded this version would be the only official one.
Whoever faxed the lyrics to Wayne set him up because the game was going to be televised nationwide in Canada. It became front page news for a couple of days as English Canada exploded in anger.

I was at the game the night Wayne got shot as I wanted to say goodbye to the Stadium and the Red Sox were playing same weekend at new Comiskey. The Hawks blew out St. Louis that night and I didn't hear about Wayne being shot until we were at the baseball game the next day.
