You and me both. I mean, there's a world out there (somewhere) in which I can probably accept Kaberle as part of this team. I still maintain that he was the exact worst guy to go out and get at the time, given the circumstances and extensively discussed "needs", and observe at least one defensive lapse for every amazing/("meaningless") 2nd assist he gets. But still, if he was the worst of what we had to work with, his cap hit and term would hurt a bit (lot?), but it would mean the 5 above him might actually be a decent group of 5.
with the same amount of horrible defensive plays and thoughness he brings?
So compensate! Nobody ever heard of balance?
You give the DD big wingers to compensate for his size, give Kaberle someone who can compensate for his deficiencies.
You get to play him more, enjoy the points he brings without being a defensive liability. You don't ****ing pair him with Chris ****ing Campoli. The hell do people expect to get from that pairing?

I think Kaberle would be pretty good next to Gorges but then we wouldn't have any sort of defensive go-to pairing.

Kaberle can be a fine 6th defender on a much better constructed team. Pairing him next to Campoli is asking for fail. Though if Markov is really back there's no point in Kaberle.

When he played with Gorges, he didn't look any better. Kaberle is on the decline

Blame the Markov injury all you want but Gauthier has no excuse for this scenario having to play itself out. Gill as a deadline dealing I get. Same with Kosty. Both are UFAs. Spacek was too but you couldn't wait to unload him at the deadline or what? Believe me, if he hung on long enough he could've done something. And Crampoli is just an awful presence to have. That Gauthier held out for higher offers than a 5th rounder then kept Campoli when they didn't come in is another reason this snob is out to lunch. Why not deal Campoli then call up St-Denis? He could use the experience and looked good last time. You'll wait so long that by the time we try to call up St-Denis, he'll be waiver wire eligible and we'll lose him for free. The same stupid thinking got Hainsey, Beauchemin and Robidas plucked drom us. The asset management is stunningly bad.
its come to a point where i would actually take Komisarek back on the team. Thats how bad and soft our defense has become.
Funny you should say that. Same thought crossed my mind last night as I was reading through the board. That's when I realized that this year failed to meet even my lowest of expectations. No Markov, no way, though.
Oilers are horrendous this year, or are they tanking intentionally? The Habs probably won't catch them up. Unless they lose everything 'till the end, which would be pretty pathetic and detrimental to the team. Habs 28th position.
I've got the Sportsnet West feed going, and the Calgary homer colour guy just referred to the Habs as the "free" spot on Calgary's bingo card to close out the year, lol.
Who cares. Go for balance and play a tighter game to compensate. You can't go power vs power when you're clearly lacking the horses.
Kaberle-Gorges
Subban-Emelin
And you're already looking at a more balanced top 4 with better synergy in each pairing.
Not comfortable giving either of Kaberle or Emelin 1st pairing minutes (neither the responsibilities nor the sheer minutes), and in your pairings there's no way around it.
