Couple of things to touch on after the Stars victory over the Blue Jackets..
Eric Nystrom became the 25th player in franchise history to wear the #24 jersey when he suited up in Columbus. Nystrom also became the 576th player all-time to suit up for the franchise.
Brenden Morrow moved into sole possession of 10th place all-time in points with his point against Columbus. He passed Tim Young with 495 points.
Radek Dvorak became the 453rd player all-time to register a point for the franchise and the 448th player all-time to register an assist for the franchise.

Well if there as anything to be happy about after the San Jose game....Morrow moved into sole possession 10th place all-time in assists on the first Stars goal of the game.

Also, Ribeiro got his 200th penalty minute as a Star. Joy.

Only notable stat against the Rangers...Loui Eriksson played in his 400th career NHL game, becoming the 37th player to accomplish this in a Stars uniform.

The race is on between Morrow and Ott on who will catch Willi Plett for 4th on penalty minute list first. Morrow is only 8 penalty minutes away and Ott is still 55 penalty minutes away, but Ott has been catching up big time (19 PIMs alone in the past 3 games). Would be shocked if Ott didn't catch Morrow and move up to 4th by the end of the season.

Coyotes fan here, coming in peace. I have a quick question for you: Did Dave Tippett use the same defense first very safe scheme when he had good talent in Dallas? Thanks.

For the most part, yes.

2006-07 would be a prime example of it.

Only milestone from game against Minnesota (besides 16 in a row against the Wild at home) is Trevor Daley reaching 150 points with the franchise. Also, Ott moves closer to moving up on the penalty minute all-time list. 6 PIMs away from 5th.

Records for game against Calgary...
Tom Wandell became the 108th player in franchise history to play at least 200 games for the club.
Steve Ott's five penalty minutes against the Flames moved him into 5th all-time in franchise history in penalty minutes.

I don't know where else to post this. It is relevant to the Stars history...

Which Stars, from the glory years, deserve to have their numbers retired?

I think these players are in on the conversation:

Locks:
9-Modano
26-Lehtinen
56-Zubov

Good Bets:
2-Hatcher
20-Belfour
22-Hull
25-Nieuwendyk

Borderline:
5-Sydor
15-Langenbrunner

I don't think people really realize the caliber of players that have played in Dallas.

Thoughts?

Modano, Lehtinen, Zubov are all good locks. Beyond that, it's probably not gonna happen.

Hull, Belfour, and Nieuwendyk already have been inducted into the Walk of Legends which pretty much confirms they're not going to be raised. They weren't here long enough. If Hatcher had retired a Star instead of leaving for Detroit, he probably would've had his number retired. But he left. No way Syd or Langs get it (again if either had stayed of their entire career, possible...especially Langenbrunner). Would imagine all three also get added to the Walk of Legends.

Two notes against Vancouver..
Stephane Robidas hit the 150 assist mark with his assist against the Canucks (Ribeiro's second goal).
Also, Richard Bachman picked up his first assist/point as a Dallas Star on Robidas's empty netter.

I agree with both Lobo and Glove, a team retiring the number goes well beyond a high caliber player playing for your team, a number retirement only goes to those players who helped not only during a period of time (that is what the Walk of Legends is for) but also helped define the franchise. The only players who qualify are Modano, Lehts, and Zubie.

Yeah... I agree with everything you've posted.

Your reasoning is the same reasoning I didn't make the others locks like Zubov, Modano, and Lehtinen.

People forget how GREAT of a player Lehtinen really was. He is my favorite Star ever... 3 Selkes.

In fairness to Langenbrunner... he was traded by us so he isn't in the same boat as Hatcher IMO.

O I agree. But still, if he had stayed here (not his choosing obviously) he would be 2nd in almost every category. There's absolutely no doubt he'd be retired if he was here his entire career.

I would say Hatcher belongs in that category. He was our captain for eight seasons, was drafted by us, and spent most of his career with us.After Modano, he's probably the guy teams cringed about when playing us - especially in the playoffs. Gainey made him captain because he wanted the team's identity to be forged around him. I would put him with Modano, Lehtinen, and Zubov for sure. Next in line would be Joe, but he's borderline. Sydor was awesome, but just not on that level to where he deserves his number retired. The others just didn't spend a good enough portion of their careers with us.

Jamie Benn's two points gave him his 150th and 151st points as a Dallas Star.
Ryan Garbutt's 1st period penalty gave him his first ever two penalty minutes as a Dallas Star. He is now the 489th player ever to record a penalty while playing for the franchise.
