Man, give yourself a break, the Blues kept the Hawks to 20 SOG and it`s the norm for this team. They are a dream come true for a goalie. Is Halak really carrying his team, do you honestly think he would have similar stats in Montreal? I`m not a Price apologist, there are times when he plays like crap, but some make Halak a magical creature of goaltending and it`s getting as annoying as when some say that every goal on Price is his D`s fault.

Back on topic: I think Price should only play in Vancouver in front of his family. I also want to know whether Budaj is worth something in the crease, if he can take a larger workload a la Biron next year. Benching him for months isn`t conductive to good play.

No don't rest him, lets see what he is made of.
He's 24 yrs old for god sake, why would he be tired??
Have i not said a thousand times, he lacks mental toughness.

If the guy is tired now, how will he ever take the team
to playing hockey in june.

Lets see what he is worth on his next contract.

Halak is a terrific goalie. If he's shown any weakness, it's an inability to handle heavy workloads. Last season he was paired with a very mediocre Ty Conklin and had to carry most of the load. He had a so-so season. His best years have been this year, when sharing games with a strong Brian Elliot, and 2010 alongside Price.

My only regret is the Habs not getting more in return for him.

You know what, we've critized Gauthier for a lot of things (and rightly so), but for some reason the signing of Budaj has been left free of criticism. Let me be one of the first to add the Budaj signing to Gauthier's long list of bone headed moves. Not only did he sign a terrible goalie, but on top of that, he gives him 2.2 million over two years. Why?Great way to use up valuable cap space. I mean Brent Johnson in Pittsbugh is making $600,000 - why did we have to overpay? At the time the excuse was to give Price a break after last season's workload - so why do you only play him for 9 games? Cant' wait for this idiot to get the boot.

You mean goalies need rest? Not sure the Habs are ready for such a concept.

If he really is lacking mental toughness, this isn't the time when it would show. He is under NO pressure to perform right now with this season already down the drain.
I'd say he is frustated, pissed off and gassed right now.

Also agreed with the poster pointing to RC playing Price right now to try and load himself a job for next season.

Dont bother trying to reason with that mental midget. Anyone who can think price lacks mental toughness after last season is out to lunch.

Give 2-3 to Price, then 1 to Budaj, and keep that pattern. That would be the logic way, but probably won't happen.

The "tank" attitude on this board is appaling.

Habs' players don't think like that. Loosing day after day eill have a very negative and long effect on these players and on this team. See the Oilers, Isles and Columbus.

If we looked anything like a competitive team, I'd have no objection to have Price play 70+ games a season. But, with Budaj and Price both likely to get invites for the Worlds, Budaj should play the Oilers game and a couple of others for the rest of the season.

What about the coaching?

They have an elite coach and we have a n00b lvl 1 coach.

Makes a huge impact.

Yes and the change in St. Louis just confirms that. Cunneyworth is a terrible coach they need someone with a strong system but with more communication with the players. Hopefully they get a good coach and GM this off season and turn the ship around.

I agree with this option. I am not worried about Price's confidence at all but more just getting him some time off in games that, for the Habs at least, do not mean much. Also would allow him to not be over worked and maybe participate in the worlds if he is interested.

That would be a good experience for Price - Hopefully, a confidence booster.

Exactly! He is 24 not 34. The guy's head is not in the game. He lets in more soft goals than any Hab netminder I have seen over the past 55 years. (Even more than Red Light Racicot.)
Charlie Hodge was a small goalie who played big. "Poney Up" Price is a big goalie who plays small.

This is the truth folks. We're paying more money for a backup to play fewer games than the one before him. Pretty stupid to say the least.
