The beginning of this year, I was wondering if there was going to be room for him on this team next year, but now after what he's shown I'd say hes someone you have to keep here based on how much he's doing defensively.

He's got more heart than half of the rest of the team combined. When he got beat for the goal a couple weeks ago, you could see he was actually disappointed. More than you can say for 90% of the rest of team. So what if he doesn't score goals, his puck movement and passing have been really good, almost to the point I don't believe its him from last year to this year, but someone else who looks like him.

I think this is the type of guy who needs to be in that locker room.

Kaleta has become a very good defensive forward and a great shot blocker. He also draws penalties without taking too many (and many of the ones he gets called for are reputation BS). Offensively he does a good job on the forecheck and cycling around the net even if it doesn't result in much. His ice time right now seems about perfect, he definitely shouldn't be getting less. He should be very legitimately discussed as an alternate captain next season if he returns. I think they'll be able to work something out because all those missed games of his will work against salary demands.

Sombody get some burn cream, the OP just got roasted.....sorry couldn't resist...

Seriously PattyK has really elivated his game if you call him a liability, your expectations are REDICULOUSLY high. Seriously. He is a 3rd line winger who has been bounced between the third and fourth lines. With a better I can absolutely see him in the 20-30 point range. He's shown before that he's got hands, but has been playing with the offensive black hole that is gaustad most of the year....

Agree. I like Kaleta. He's been shining defensively and like you said, can make some nice passes. I've seen him score nice goals live too. Don't understand why people on here want him gone. He's a great physical shut down guy

This thread should've been started in November and not now. I would've been on board with the op in November and he would be a liability (head butting incident). Since that incident though, he has chilled out and focused on his defensive game.

I think in part his role has increased recently because of the road trip. You see a Sedin on the ice? Out goes the KLG line. You see Thorton? KLG out. That's why his ice time has been inflated.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if tonight his ice time is decreased because of the advantage of last line changes at home.

Because Vanek is doing so much to demonstrate that he is deserving of more icetime right now?

If Vanek wants to be rewarded with more icetime, he needs to show that he would actually do something with it.

Really, this is hardly the time for someone to be suggesting Vanek get more ice time. Yeesh. How about we wait until after he has 1 good shift.
