Avery should have kept his mouth shut and been a good little boy.

Why? He still gets paid and this doesn't effect any team that wants to sign him next year. The league knows the score on Avery/Torts.

when we beat the devils in the post season it was because if Avery's ability to get under their skin. Kovy and Fatso hate him so much. he's a useful player and was the reason we won a lot of games a couple years ago. either way, i don't see Sean really caring much. He'll go work for Vogue and bang runway models.

Warrant what exactly? He was, in his prime, an average NHLer who at times provided additional value with his antics but more often than not, infuriated his teammates and employers. And now his hockey skills have diminished.

The proof is in the pudding. He's been fired and there is no longer a place for him in the NHL. Maybe someone gives him a shot next year but I wouldn't bet on him having any sort of impact.

Good riddance.

Interesting then that there isn't a team in the NHL who claimed off waivers.

So the Sean Avery era ends with a whimper. I can see Slat's point: why expose the guy on re-entry waivers for another team to pick him up for 20 games or so if we would be saddled with even a small cap hit? Sean's contract expires in July anyway so if he is going to get back in the league- let him take his chances then.

I just wonder if the final Avery image we will have is of him and Pruster having breakfast on 24/7 where he asks the waiter: "Is the orange juice free"? There was something about his attitude and disposition when he said it that just summed up Sean's personality.

I doubt an NHL club picks him up and really doubt he plays in Europe. If that's the case, the bizarre career of Sean Avery is now over.

His NHL career is over. I could see him being good enough for a team in Europe, possibly the KHL, but I just don't think Sean will want to move out of the country.

He'll either play for a low-tier pro league like the SPHL or FHL, or disapear from hockey completely and concentrate on business/fashion/investments.

Not so sure about that. I think you could argue that there aren't many teams that couldn't use his skills on their bottom two lines. I don't think he's below NHL quality, I think if he had a vanilla personality he would be a bottom 6 player somewhere, but I don't see how one can effectively argue that he's a top 6 player when not one team took him even to play as a fourth liner. A coach hating a player doesn't equate to the whole league hating him, there's more to Avery's decline than Torts. I was a fan of the guy too.

He's not going to the KHL. NHL or it's fashion time, IMHO.

Khevlan is a master of sarcasm. FYI to everyone.

As for Avery, I'm glad these debates are over. At this point, he's burned so many bridges I'd be shocked to seem him play hockey again.

What is so stupid about that statement? It's pretty clear that he's burned bridges around the league. There's a pattern of things ending badly with pretty much every team he's played for.

Definitive statements such as 'his career is over' or 'no team is going to sign him' can come back to bite the person making them right in the ass.

We don't really know whether some team will or will not sign him or even that Sean will be willing to play for that team but his skating is fine, his shot is still mediocre, he's good banging around the offensive end of the ice and not so hot in the defensive end. He's capable of making good plays and being a disruptive ******* and sometimes taking some stupid penalties when he's not drawing them. I could think of some teams that might consider him and one might be the Islanders. In any case he's still at this point in time an NHL worthy player-though not worth anywhere near the $4 mil per year contract he's getting or even worth the half of that the Rangers are paying.

Here's the thing--he played fairly well--keeping in mind the limited ice time he got--for one of the best teams in the league (we're arguably a top 5 NHL team now--aren't we?) and couldn't stick for a variety of reasons. There are a lot of teams worse (some much worse) than ours who might have a niche for him to fit into.

No point being miffed about this though--as some of the posters seem here. He's not our problem anymore. He did have some good years with us.

It's stupid because the person making the statement doesn't know if there's a team that would sign him.

It's been rumored if Avery was put through reentry waivers that Fla and Cal would be interested in claiming him. Plus there's Renney in Edm.

So there could very well be options for Avery to play again in the NHL.

FYI - I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but at some point after all the ridiculous arguments with Avery fans over the years, Khelvan decided to simply start posting borderline over the top praise of him every time he is mentioned.

Fantastic that he's still in character all these many months later.
It was funny the first couple of times.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that Torts is the reason Avery's career is over.

It couldn't possibly be Sean's fault that he is in the position he is in.

Edit: Oh, it's sarcasm.

Sarcasm in order to be effective has to be clear.

I've been an Avery supporter, but the confronting management nonsense because he wanted back in the NHL was not the proper way to go about it.

Proving you are better than the competition and scoring a point a game while in a lower league would have been teh best and fastest way back to the NHL be that with the Rangers or with another team via a trade.

I have supported Avery, but this was a stupid move.

Career is over.

NHL teams will know why he was not played with the Whale and left off the roster when they do their due diligence before investing any amount of money in him.

They will call Sather to pick his brain about what kind of antics Sean pulled to be paid to skate on his own.

Big mistake on his part.

The same guy (Larry Brooks) that started most those rumors also said the Islanders and Garth Snow were interested in picking up Avery the last time he went on waivers yet the Islanders never put in a claim.

I mean, who knows what NHL teams really think, but I can't for the life of me fathom why a team would even go as far as to give Sean Avery a training camp invite for next season.

His history of being a disruptive and volatile player are well-known, and at his age and declining form the last two years, the reward of taking a chance on him seems very low.
