Is Ottawa positioning themselves?

Seems like we are in a good position at 7th place to either play the Rangers or the winner of the south east by moving a few spots. I wouldn't want to play Boston in the first round. I think we would have our way with either Florida or New York. I wonder if at some point during the rest of the season, if the other teams in the east will pass us in games played so we could better position ourselves. Let Pittsburgh and Philly kill each other.

It is looking more and more like it will be the Bruins. So we might as well WANT it to be the Bruins.

As I like to say; If you can't get out of something, might as well volunteer.

I could see us winning the division, then the Bruins will end up in 7th. Yay home ice! Boo, Thomas owns us at SBP.
The Bruins are positioning themselves!

Seriously, we're trying to get in at the moment, we'd take any position. To think otherwise is dumb.

It would be comforting to know the Sens were so good that they could pick and choose which games to win.

But they aren't.

I'd be fine playing whoever. I just want the team to get there first.

How are we positioned to play Rangers if we are positioned to play Boston and otherwise is not even close?

There are no easy teams in the playoffs...granted the Bruins are stanley cup champs...I'd rather face them early when we are still fresh and have no sustained any injuries, than later when we might have already been beat up by a team or two (if we were to reach the later rounds). Bruins are much more physical than us, but we can use that against them...don't worry...just make the playoffs first...

Boston might be the ideal first round match-up for us, huge pressure on them to beat a low seed, they are banged up at core positions, defending champions starting at home with a fickle home crowd.

I don't think we will beat Boston, but we could beat them.

Yea, every team has their pros and cons. The only team I really don't wanna meet is the Penguins.

This team really needs to concentrate on catching New Jersey, plus you want to go in to the playoffs hot no better time to be playing well. Playing Boston is worst case scenario in my opinion so much experience and physicality. Even if they some how manage to upset them its going to take everything out of this team.

I worry about Karlsson in a series vs. Boston.

Those guys will run him through the backwall at first opportunity.

True, but he will get that no matter what team he plays. The problem is boston is better at it then anyone. I dread Spezza having to face Bergeron and Chara every shift for 7 games.

I agree... I think they will have alot of pressure... Thomas isnt playing out of his head... Rask is out semi-long term... Turco may not provide much for them before the playoffs... They havent been good since the White House incident and if we start peaking going into the playoffs we can beat them...

I dont care who we play... I just want to be in the playoffs... We will have to beat them at some point if they are that good... We arent in a position to be picking teams we think we can beat easily...

Boston won the cup last year, if there's a team who won't have any pressure, it's them. If they lose, who cares, they won last year.

Am I the only one who WANTS Pittsburgh in the first round? They've eliminated us the last two times we were in the playoffs, I want nothing else but a shot at revenge.

Also, I'm not too worried about Karlsson being shut down. He can handle himself, he's just too quick to shut down with physical play. I'm more concerned with Spezza, he's on an island up front out there. Shut him down, you shut his line down.

I don't want to face NYR. Lundqvist is unreal, we'd have a very hard time scoring goals. I think Boston is wearing down, we could beat them.

EDIT: obviously, 6th is ideal.

There are 10 points between 1st and 2nd, so I doubt we'll play the Rangers.

I think there are 3 teams that have to be played through. Boston will be our 1 match up. If we were to take them, then we would be low seed (assuming the Rangers handle 8th), and then we would have to play them as they are number 1 seed. If we were to win that round, who's left...Pittsburg? Then onto, lets say, Detroit.

No problem.

Funny. I have the opposite worry.

Spezza will be fine in the playoffs. He's a proven playoff performer, and is one of the few active career PPG players in the playoffs. He'll produce for us, I have no doubt about that.

Karlsson on the other hand will be targeted like Redden in his prime by teams, since he's the focal point of our breakout and offense on the backend. At his size, there's no way it won't wear him down, and he has shown immaturity at times taking retaliation penalties when he has been targeted and hooked without a call.
