I am a Mets fan too but definitely not in the root against the Yankees camp. For the Mets, I am actually looking forward to July and August and hopefully seeing Matt Harvey, Kirk Nieuwenhuis or Matt Den Dekker. It is awful being the 5th best team in a 5 team division but with Alderson, DePodesta, and Riccardi responsible for developing the players. I could only hope that by the time things get a little back on track, the Mets finances will allow them to be competitive.
As a non-Yankee fan, (note - not a Yankee hater), this is likely Mariano's last year and the team is slowly turning from that great core to players like Cano and Granderson. The financial landscape in baseball is changing and I think the Yankees will make their adjustments and field a solid team for a few more years.
But to openly root against the Yankees as a Mets fan screams inferiority complex. I've stopped comparing the teams years ago and now think of the Mets as the Royals or Pirates in the New York market..sigh!
I was looking to do a fantasy league and was hoping someone on here had an opening. I know I don't post much but I'm on here everyday. Thanks guys.
And to add to the debate I've been a Mets fan and never felt the need to hate the Yankees. Before the Madoff scandal we bought our teams just like them. Add in the fact they don't play each other much and aren't in the same division I never understood the reason to hate them. Always had respect for the team and I hope one day, a day where the Wilpons are gone, that the Mets can have a respectable franchise like them.
I dont get why some Mets fans despise Yankees. I'd love to see Mets do well.
I am a Met fan, and there is definitely a jealousy factor. Try growing up as a Met fan watching Yankees win just about every World Series, watching your friends celebrate in your face. It sucks. While Mets haven't won a damn thing.
Thats why Yankees can root for Mets, while most Met fans absolutely hate the Yankees. I am a big time Yankee hater, sorry, it's what I am. I rooted for the Phillies to beat the Yanks in the WS, yup.
There are always 2 teams I root for, Mets and whoever is playing the Yankees.
Edit: It was also passed down to me. My grandfather hated the Yankees, in which my mom grew up hating the Yankees, and it has passed on down to me. That also plays a role in my hatred.
I would never root for the Filth over the Yanks, or any other NL east team, but I would root on any other team over the Yanks.
I just couldn't stand to see my friends celebrate again, and hear it all over sports radio, and all over the newspapers. I don't live near any of my Phillie friends, so I was prepared to just ignore their texts if Phillies did win. I just hope to avoid that matchup again.

The owners of the New York Mets have reached an agreement to pay $162 million to settle claims related to the Bernard Madoff case.
In the suit against the Mets, attorneys for the court-appointed trustee in the case alleged that team owners Fred Wilpon, Saul Katz and their partners engaged in "willful blindness." That's another way of saying that the Mets knew that Madoff's investment firm was a front for a pyramid-style scam but chose to invest with him anyway
Mets fans need to dig into some books...namely Bats by DJ and The Bad Guys Won by Pearlman.
The Mets owned NYC for a decade. Literally. The Yankees were a very good ballclub in the mid-80's. Big names. Big Money. Lots of wins but no playoffs. They Mets stole all the headlines and became America's team overnight.
Yankees fans went through a lot in that period. It got worse with the Andy Hawkins, Sam Millitello, Dave Eiland days. Yankees were pathetic. Just pathetic. Worse than the Indians and Mriners combined.
That's why us Yankees fans appreciate the winning. I never considered myself "entitled". i used to cut out of school, take 2-hour D-Train rides and spend 20 bucks to go to a half-filled Stadium, only to watch the Yankees get decimated by Oakland and Boston and Toronto.
Who remembers Hawkins' no-hitter in Comiskey, when he was yelling at Letritz for dropping fly balls, and leyritz was screaming "**** you" from left field????? They lost the game 4-0 IIRC. Talk about a low point.
Sorry Mets fans. I love the Mets because they are a part of NYC and I root for them 99 pct of the time, but spare me the sob story. We've all been through it.
Guy is right though. Went to U-miami for first year of law school, they're pretty retarded down there. No one gave a **** about sports- they essentially built this new stadium to seat 5k people a night. After the novelty of the first year wears off, it's going to be a disaster for them.

Bobby V fields his opening day lineup against the Yankees two weeks before the season. Yankees field their C-Team. Sorry, Bobby. A win in March won't prevent another September meltdown
