Did Kassian have issues with people not willing to fight him in Buffalo? I've seen him try to get in about 5 separate fights over his first few games and no one wants to have anything to do with him. I don't think the Canucks are encouraging him to fight anyway but it's been strange to watch.
He's had two NHL fights in Buffalo IIRC. I don't remember him actively seeking out many other fights, but sometimes it's hard to tell whether they're just jawing or trying to get someone else to drop the gloves.

Quite the opposite in fact. He wasn't willing to throw down much at all. Much to what happened with Bissonnette in his first game in VAN.

A game against Toronto .. Zack tried like 3 or 4 times to get Dion Phaneuf to throw down. The previous game Phanuef planted Zack face first into boards. He wanted pay back. Phanuef wouldn't go.
Only a few out of many agree with that on the Canucks board, so that is not a mass opinion in Vancouver. Plus, for the few that actually believe that junk, it's just sour grapes. 90% of Canucks fans miss what Ehrhoff brought to the team.

Thought Sulzer did okay. Hodgson was mediocre I felt. Nothing really great but nothing really bad. Made a few nice passes and kept the power play moving. His biggest problem that he can't control right now is that his wingers (Ennis and Stafford) can't ever seem to bury their shots.

Fair enough. I think you guys got the best of this deal still. Hodgson is better than Kassian and Sulzer is better than MAG. It'll be fun to watch Hodgson for years to come when you guys play the Leafs. Hope he doesn't bury us too badly.
Hodgson was the worst on the Ennis Hodgson Stafford line, wasn't engaged and it was basically Stafford and Ennis lugging the puck around while Hodgson stood in the middle of 3 defenders. He made a couple of nice passes but he wasn't moving his feet at all. Did not like his game at all tonight. He's been good, the points will come, he just needs to work harder.

It's true. But there is no way in hell the Canucks pay 10mil this season for 40 points.

Why the hell should we care about 10 mil this season? His cap hit is 4 mil for the next 10 years. That's the relevant number, and that's a flat out bargain through his entire prime, and MIGHT be a slight overpayment at the tail end.
Ehrhoff will most likely retire a Sabre. The thought makes me smile.
I only wish that the defenseman piece Vancouver got in the deadline deal wasn't a liability that was keeping Chris Tanev out of their lineup. Because Sulzer was exactly what this team needs. It was also what they needed a couple months ago. I daresay this team's record would be significantly better if they had Sulzer instead of Gragnani as the defensive injuries piled up.
Hodson v Kassian is very even. Gragnani v Sulzer doesn't hurt either side - unless Vancouver overplays MAG to keep his rights. With Vancouver's roster, I'd rather go for the #1 seed (and play Tanev) than take a risk on a guy who frankly doesn't look interested in actually playing defense at the NHL level.
Are you guys really impressed with Sulzer? I always thought he would be 8th or 9th defenceman for teams.
He can eat minutes without embarassing himself - and allows the kids to play big minutes in the minors instead of minutes they aren't ready for. Slight improvement now as we chase the playoffs, nothing more. And I think the coaching staff had seen enough of MAG.
Much like Sulzer played ahead of Tanev early in the year to allow Tanev to play in all situations with Chicago, Sulzer being here allows guys like McNabb and TJ Brennan to concentrate on their Rochester playoff run. And Tanev is WAY more NHL ready than either McNabb or Brennan.

Cody has skating, defense, and energy issues, at least at this early point in his career. It all might come from the skating problems, since they affect his back-checking, and consume extra energy with that choppy little stride. When he was with the Canucks, I always wondered if and when his back injury was going to reappear. With the extra minutes, and the raised expectations, I wonder if that injury might be in play as he struggles to make an impact at both ends of the ice in Buffalo.
Fans who feel like crowing about "winning the trade" (both Sabres and Canucks fans) should smarten up and realize that all four players involved have their issues. For the Canucks, it was like rebalancing an investment portfolio that had become overweighted in one position. For the Sabres, I believe it was the same. Risk is inherent in investment, and since nobody really knows how the future will work out, the wisest approach is to balance your assets. Both teams tried to do that.
As far as Erhoff goes, for the Canucks there were two issues, his price, and his tendency to vanish in the playoffs. But price was the main one. Buffalo made a huge offer and got him. It's that simple. He worked well with the Sedins on the power play, and almost all fans would welcome him back at a cheaper price. If anyone on the Sabres board thinks serious Vancouver fans consider Gragnani to be "a second Erhoff," well that's hilarious. There are idiots on both boards, just like there are risks and issues involved with all the players under discussion.
