Hysterical!!! I read this to my girfriend, told her I thought is was so funny... I should keep my mouth shut next time.
It goes without saying, great GDT. You can probably copy and past this for every thread. Your consistancy is impressive.
By the way. Does anyone else tune in each game, wanting a win, but hoping the Islanders stay in the top 5 or 8 teams for the upcoming draft. I'm really disappointed when the Islanders lose, but I don't think making the playoffs is necessarily a good thing. If they manage to sqeak into the 7th or 8th position, I don't think they'll do very well against the Rags or Bruins. I have a feeling it will be a quick series. Since the Islanders are still borderline, I would love one more top 8 pick, a shot at a pretty good UFA defensemen and another year of experience.
So I still hope the Islanders win tonight and every night, but I've been pulling for teams like TB, Winnipeg and Buffalo, and sometimes Toronto and Washington (I don't want either team to make the playoffs, but I think it would be ridiculous if they had a lower draft pick then the Islanders).
you would turn down the opportunity to play the rangers in the first rd of the playoffs? sorry, but id be licking my ****ing chops if we matched up against them....and all of us complain the rivalry isnt what it used to be? a playoff series will change that right away

I dunno... I think they'd wipe us out even worse than 94
So I'm heading to the casino shortly to place my parlay. I never bet an Isles game, but i am thinking about taking the UNDER 5.5. Kiss of death, will probably ruin my night.

I'll wait a year to play them. Bigger teams like the Rangers and Bruins will play a physical series and wear the Islanders down. I would be shocked if the series went 6 games.
One more good draft and a full year with Ullstrom and CC, not too mention the possibility of Ness, Donovan or DeHaahn making the team, will make a big difference. Add in a ligit UFA and a better JT (he gets better each year) and I feel pretty good about the Islanders chances.
I really want the Islanders to have a shot at Trouba or Dumba.
How would you feel if the Leafs and Cap ended up with them instead?
The Islanders are not quite on par with those teams now, they're close. Give them the pick instead of the Islanders and that's 2 more teams that potentially jump back over us.
I dunno... I think they'd wipe us out even worse than 94
We match up poorly against really big or great skating teams.
While we really don't match up that well against the Rags because of some sizable players on their roster, they do sometimes run into scoring problems and their skilled forwards aren't exactly huge so our defense can at least compete with those guys.
I was at Game 3 of that '94 series. (Got to see our 1st goal scored! ) It was brutally bad. I don't think there's any way that we'd repeat that disaster. I don't think that our goalies are capable of matching that crapfest either. I don't see the current team simply laying over if they get to the playoffs.
I'd rather have us face the Rags than Boston, the Pens, Philly, or even Florida. Yes, Florida. Florida seems to get to every loose puck against us. As good as the Rangers have been at compiling points, they don't scare me like some other teams. More importantly, how ****ing awesome would it be to see that series in the 1st round? We'd be in the playoffs. We'd be playing against our top rivals. We could all go back to really, really hating on each other again. It's good for us. It's good for them (except for the 1st round loss they'd be taking.) It's good for hockey. It would be exciting. Even if you told me that we had a 20% chance of beating them in a best of 7, which I'd contest, I'd take that chance to beat them.
It would also be a great experience for the young players on this club. Win or lose. They'd learn what it takes.

I took the under. I use sportsbook...place bets anywhere

I'm going to parlay the Under with Rag$/Sens Over and Caps/Lightning Over.
I just go to the casino with cash in hand. I have 3 Casinos within 2 miles of my house.
Yeah.. He was healthy 2 games ago...not sure if the scratch was to let his leg heal a bit more or maybe try other players...or for not playing up to par?

Hey Mitch, first off, I've never responded to one of your posts, because you always make perfect sense to me, I find you to be extremely knowledgeable and you're never as emotional when you comment, like some of the folks on this thread.
Basically, I have a great deal of respect for your opinion.
This is one time I disagree.
To keep with the Star Wars theme, it would be like having Luke face Darth Vadar before he's finished his training with Yoda, and we all know how that worked out.
The Islander can use another year to grow and a chance to have one more good draft before the team starts maturing. The offseason seems to help young players more then the vets. JT can work on whatever weakness he has (I haven't noticed one, but I'm sure he has), Hamonic will get a little bigger, a little stronger, Ullstrom, CC and Nino will probably benefit the most, having had a taste of what to expect. Bailey will look forward to playing a whole year with competant linemates and I have a feeling Mr. Grabner might also recognize some of his problems this offseason and work to correct them.
Don't get me wrong, I want the Islanders to play well and I want them to win. I just won't be all that bummed when they lose (unless it to the Rags).
Making the playoffs this year won't matter much if they're completely overmatched. The lose of a good draft pick, could actually set them back a bit, considering someone as undeserving as Toronto, Washington or Tampa Bay could end up with it.
... you know, honestly, as a Sens fan, I have to say you guys can do what you want after tonight. Win more games? Sure, knock yourselves out, sluggers.
Just win this one, and we'll beat your hated Rangers tonight. Even-stevens.

I don't think any single draft pick will ever be as important to this team as learning and establishing a tradition of winning is.
I hope they are actually sitting Grabner and it's not just him still being sick, I love Grabs (Have his jersey) but he definitely needs some time in a press box to get his head back together and come back and be effective.
I don't think any single draft pick will ever be as important to this team as learning and establishing a tradition of winning is.
If they get swept out it will.
It's more then the pick. The team is still not built for the playoffs, quite yet. They're very close. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, the younger players are still growing, mentally and physically. I would like another offseason for players like Ullstrom, CC and Hamonic to grow a bit. I think JT will also improve (I know, it seems impossible) and I think Mark Streit, Kyle Okposo and Michael Grabner could use a little offseason time to recharge their batteries and clear their heads.
Add that to the possible emergence of Ness, Donovan or Dehaan on defense. Give the Islanders a chance to sign a legitimate UFA, along with a good draft and it will make a big difference, next year and beyond.
Making the playoffs this year will extend the season by 4 or 5 games. Not making the playoffs and having a shot at a good draft pick will extend the Islanders playoff sucess for years to come.
Making the playoffs this year won't matter much if they're completely overmatched. The lose of a good draft pick, could actually set them back a bit, considering someone as undeserving as Toronto, Washington or Tampa Bay could end up with it.
Not that I have any delusions that we will make the playoffs but if we did, I would never turn down that opportunity, especially against the Rags. It's the playoffs man, we've almost forgotten what that tastes like, it's electric. We would have nothing to lose, all the pressure on them. If we lose no big deal, we should have lost but if we won or gave them a huge scare, then it would be a huge boost to this team in many apsects.
I do disagree to some extent on the worth of the experience to the kids even if we lose. Any playoff experience is good for these young guys who have never been there, to see the speed and experience the atmosphere. Better to get that out of the way now, than have many of these guys have their first playoff game when we actually expect to win something.
Just think of 1975 (Rags/Pens) and 1993 (Caps/Pens). Just two years ago, Montreal (8th cede) played Philly (7th cede) in conference finals. Anything can happen, but not unless you actually get there.
